Mitchell Cox
---- Mitch Cox (born 15 November 1993) is an English rugby league footballer who plays as a second-row forward for Swinton Lions in the Betfred Championship. He has previously played at club level for the Leigh Centurions (now known as Leigh Leopards as of 2022 season) in the Betfred Championship. Background Born in Manchester, Cox started his rugby league career in the reserve team at the Leigh Centurions. Between two spells with the Leigh Centurions academy system, Cox signed for Australian Rugby League Club Thirroul Butchers where he played a season before returning to the Leigh Centurions. When the reserve team was discontinued, Cox after one game chose to return to amateur rugby instead. Cox signed with the North Wales Crusaders and spent the next few seasons with Leigh Miners Rangers. Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. Rugby League Positions
A rugby league team consists of thirteen players on the field, with 4 substitutes on the bench. Each of the thirteen players is assigned a position, normally with a standardised number, which reflects their role in attack and defence, although players can take up any position at any time. Players are divided into two general types, forwards and backs. Forwards are generally chosen for their size and strength. They are expected to run with the ball, to attack, and to make tackles. Forwards are required to improve the team's field position thus creating space and time for the backs. Backs are usually smaller and faster, though a big, fast player can be of advantage in the backs. Their roles require speed and ball-playing skills, rather than just strength, to take advantage of the field position gained by the forwards. Swinton Lions
The Swinton Lions are a professional rugby league club based in Swinton, Greater Manchester, England, which competes in the Championship. The club has won the Championship six times and three Challenge Cups. Before 1996, the club was known simply as Swinton. History Early years The club was formed in 1866 when members of Swinton Cricket Club decided to take up "football" in the winter to keep fit. Other than an annual challenge against the local Lancashire Rifle Volunteers from 1869, the only games played were amongst the club's own membership. Betfred Championship
The Championship, known as the Betfred Championship for sponsorship reasons, is a professional rugby league competition. It is the Rugby Football League Championship Second Division, second-tier competition organised by the Rugby Football League, the governing body for the sport in England, and consists of 14 teams, with promotion to the Super League and relegation to the third-tier competition, RFL League 1, League One. North Wales Crusaders
The North Wales Crusaders ( cy, Croesgadwyr Gogledd Cymru Rygbi'r Gynghrair) is a professional rugby league club based in Colwyn Bay, Wales. They are the successors to the former Super League club Crusaders Rugby League. Crusaders compete in Betfred League 1, the third tier of European rugby league (behind the Super League and Betfred Championship). Leigh Miners Rangers
Leigh Miners Rangers are a community amateur rugby league football club from Leigh in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester. The club currently competes in the National Conference League, the National Conference Premier Division. The club also operates an A team, Masters, an Under 18's team, and numerous junior teams. Miners Rangers also field a successful Ladies side in the RFL Women's Super League Group The club was founded in 1966 as Leigh Miners Welfare. The club later merged with the junior club Leigh Rangers, and changed its name to Leigh Miners Rangers. The club have defeated professional opposition twice in the Challenge Cup.
