Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre
The Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell Theatre was a strip club at 895 O'Farrell Street near San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. Having opened as an X-rated movie theater by Jim and Artie Mitchell on July 4, 1969, the O'Farrell was one of America's most notorious adult-entertainment establishments. By 1980, the nightspot had popularized close-contact lap dancing, which would become the norm in strip clubs nationwide. Journalist Hunter S. Thompson, a longtime friend of the Mitchells and frequent visitor at the club, went there frequently during the summer of 1985 as part of his research for a possible book on pornography. Thompson called the O'Farrell "the Carnegie Hall of public sex in America" and ''Playboy'' magazine praised it as "the place to go in San Francisco!" George Moscone
George Richard Moscone (; November 24, 1929 – November 27, 1978) was an American attorney and Democratic politician. He was the 37th mayor of San Francisco, California from January 1976 until his assassination in November 1978. He was known as "The People's Mayor", who opened up City Hall and its commissions to reflect the diversity of San Francisco, appointing African Americans, Asian Americans, and homosexuals. ''Song and Dance'' is a musical comprising two acts, one told entirely in "Song" and one entirely in "Dance", tied together by a unifying love story. The "Song" act is ''Tell Me on a Sunday'', with lyrics by Don Black and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, about a young British woman's romantic misadventures in New York City and Hollywood. Les Nickelettes were a feminist satirical performance art troupe from San Francisco, California. History Les Nickelettes were created by a group of women experimental theatre artists from San Francisco State University in 1972. Started as a lark, first becoming vaudevillian cheerleaders at the Peoples' Nickelodeon midnight shows the group quickly evolved into a cutting edge feminist satirical performance art troupe. Women were eager to join and because there were no auditions, entrance requirements, leaders, structure or rules, all women--experienced performers or novices-- were welcome to take part in the free artistic expression of pure unfettered female humor.
