Mister Universo
''Mister Universo'' is a 2016 Austrian-Italian drama film directed by Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also screened at the 2016 Locarno Festival and the 2016 Vienna International Film Festival where it won an award. The film shows the everyday life of the slowly disappearing world of the circus with a cast of amateur actors. The winner of the 1957 Mr Universe competition, Arthur Robin, played himself in the film, as did a number of other members of the cast. Plot Tairo, a young circus liontamer, loses a lucky horseshoe charm that had been bent out of iron by strongman Arthur Robin, a former winner of the Mr. Universe competition. Tizza Covi
Tizza Covi (1971, in Bolzano) is an Italian screenwriter and director. She lived in Paris and Berlin before studying photography in Vienna. After finishing her studies she went to Rome where she worked as a photographer. Since 1996 she works together with Rainer Frimmel on films, theatre, and photography. In 2002 they founded their own film production company, Vento Film, to produce their films independently. They have won several awards for their documentaries, including the Wolfgang-Staudte-Award at the Berlinale for ''Babooska''. '' La Pivellina'' is their first fiction feature film and has been screened worldwide in more than 130 International Film Festivals. In the 19th century, the term strongman referred to an exhibitor of strength or similar circus performers who performed feats of strength. More recently, strength athletics, also known as strongman competitions, have grown in popularity. Rainer Frimmel
Rainer Frimmel (born 11 July 1971 in Vienna) is an Austrian director and photographer. After studying psychology in Vienna he graduated as a photographer. He has received scholarships in New York City, Paris and Rome for his photographic work. Since 1996 he has been working together with Tizza Covi on films, theatre, and photography. Arthur Robin (born 5 February 1927) is a Guadeloupean-born French former professional bodybuilder. He won the 1957 Mr. Universe championship. He was the first Black winner of the competition. Universe Championships
The Universe Championships are annual worldwide bodybuilding events organised by the National Amateur Body-Builders' Association (NABBA). Originally promoted as the contest, the event was expanded to include women's classes in 1968. Notable previous winners include bodybuilder, actor, and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, and bodybuilder and actor Steve Reeves (1926–2000).
