Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority
The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) (formerly Mississippi Valley Conservation (MVC)) is a conservation authority in the province of Ontario. It is headquartered in Carleton Place, Ontario and serves a 4450 km watershed located across eleven municipalities. The organization is responsible for both the Mississippi River watershed and the Carp River watershed. Conservation Authority (Ontario, Canada)
A conservation authority is a local, community-based natural resource management agency based in Ontario, Canada. Conservation authorities represent groupings of municipalities on a watershed basis and work in partnership with other agencies to carry out natural resource management activities within their respective watersheds, on behalf of their member municipalities and the Province of Ontario. The 1946 ''Conservation Authorities Act'' provides the means by which municipalities within a common watershed can petition the Province of Ontario to form a conservation authority for that watershed to undertake programs of natural resource management. Carleton Place, Ontario
Carleton Place is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada, in Lanark County, about west of downtown Ottawa. It is located at the crossroads of Highway 15 and Highway 7, halfway between the towns of Perth, Almonte, Smiths Falls, and the nation's capital, Ottawa. A drainage basin is an area of land where all flowing surface water converges to a single point, such as a river mouth, or flows into another body of water, such as a lake or ocean. A basin is separated from adjacent basins by a perimeter, the '' drainage divide'', made up of a succession of elevated features, such as ridges and hills. A basin may consist of smaller basins that merge at river confluences, forming a hierarchical pattern. The Carp River is a river in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is 42 kilometres (26 miles) long and its watershed drains an area of approximately 306 km2 spread across Stittsville, Kanata, and West Carleton-March. The headwaters originate as the upper Carp River (also called Carp Creek), which runs southwest from Appaloosa Park under Eagleson Road through Glen Cairn where it empties into the marshes and storm water ponds south of the Canadian Tire Centre. From there it flows north through West Carleton-March into the Ottawa River at Fitzroy Harbour. Mill Of Kintail Conservation Area
The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area is a preserve operated by the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, in Mississippi Mills, Ontario, Canada. The preserve features an 1830s grist mill that was a former summer home and sculpture studio of medical doctor, sculptor and Ramsay Township native, R. Tait McKenzie who kept the mill in the 20th century. The mill is home to the R. Tait Mackenzie Museum, which features many of the artist's sculptures and memorabilia, and the Naismith Museum about James Naismith, another famous native of Ramsay Township and the inventor of basketball.
