Mississippi Highway 572
Mississippi Highway 572 (MS 572) is a former state highway in southwestern Mississippi. The route's western terminus was in Centreville of Wilkinson county. MS 572 traveled east and intersected MS 24 and MS 33, just east of the town. It ended at MS 569 south of Beechwood. MS 572 was designated in 1957, from MS 24 and MS 33 to MS 569. The route was extended west to Centreville, and was removed from the state highway system in 1967. Route description As of 1965, the route was located in eastern Wilkinson and western Amite counties. All of the route was a two-laned paved road. MS 572 began at the center of Centreville, near a railroad track. The route then traveled down Park Road until it exited Wilkinson County and entered Amite County. After crossing the county line, MS 572 intersected MS 24 and MS 33, and MS 572 was also branded Lower Centreville Road. Centreville is a town in Amite County, Mississippi, Amite and Wilkinson County, Mississippi, Wilkinson counties, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi McComb micropolitan area, micropolitan statistical area. Its population was 1,258 in 2020. Bethany Presbyterian Church is a historic church in Centreville, built in 1855, and added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Amite County, Mississippi, National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The town was incorporated in 1880, and it was a small settlement in the years prior. In 1880, the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley R.R. ran along the border between Wilkinson and Amite counties. Liberty is a town in Amite County, Mississippi. It is part of the McComb, Mississippi McComb micropolitan area, Micropolitan Statistical Area. It has a population of 728 according to the 2010 census. Amite County is a county located in the state of Mississippi on its southern border with Louisiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,720. Its county seat is Liberty. The county is named after the Amite River, which runs through the county. Amite County is part of the McComb, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area. Mississippi Highway 24 (MS 24) is a state highway in Mississippi, United States. The highway runs from Fort Adams east to an interchange with Interstate 55 (I-55) and U.S. Highway 98 (US 98) in McComb. The roadway passes through Wilkinson, Amite, and Pike counties, serving the communities of Woodville, Centreville, Gloster, and Liberty. MS 24 has concurrencies with MS 33 between Centerville and Gloster and MS 48 from Liberty to west of McComb. MS 24 was designated in 1932 to run from Fort Adams east to Leakesville, following gravel roads across the southern part of the state. Mississippi Highway 33 (MS 33) is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. It runs from north to south for and serves the counties of Jefferson, Franklin, Amite, and Wilkinson. Route description MS 33 begins in Wilkinson County at the Louisiana state line, with it continuing south as Louisiana Highway 19 (LA 19) into Norwood. It heads north through woodlands, then farmland for several miles, passing through Whitaker before entering the Centreville city limits and becoming concurrent (overlapped) with MS 24. Mississippi Highway 569
Mississippi Highway 569 (MS 569) is a state highway in southwestern Mississippi. The route starts at the Mississippi–Louisiana state line, and it travels northeastward from that point. It intersects MS 48 southwest of Liberty, and MS 569 becomes concurrent with it. Inside Liberty, MS 569 is also concurrent with MS 24 briefly before travelling northeastward out of the city. It continues through Amite County and it ends at U.S. Route 98 (US 98) in extreme southwestern Lincoln County. The road was designated in 1955, as part of projects initiated by the Mississippi State Highway Department (MSHD). The route was finished by 1956, and the majority of it was paved by 1958.
