Mississippi Highway 536 (MS 536) is an unsigned highway that runs from MS 15 southwest of Laurel to MS 63 southwest of Waynesboro in the U.S. state of Mississippi. Only about of the overall highway is paved and state maintained. The majority of the route is a dirt road that runs through De Soto National Forest. Route description The unsigned highway begins along MS 15 about southeast of Tuckers Crossing and about southeast of Laurel in a rural area of Jones County. The two-lane state-maintained roadway heads north as George Boutwell Road. It heads past some houses and open fields and makes a sharp curve to the east before resuming a northeasterly course. At Road 201, the MS 536 designation turns onto it which is a dirt road. Heading southeast, the road's surroundings becomes completely forest as it formally enters De Soto National Forest. Laurel is a city in and the second county seat of Jones County, Mississippi, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 17,161. It is located northeast of Ellisville, the first county seat, which contains the first county courthouse. Laurel has the second county courthouse as there are two judicial districts in Jones County. Jones County, Mississippi
Jones County is in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 67,246. Its county seats are Laurel and Ellisville. Jones County is part of the Laurel micropolitan area. History Less than a decade after Mississippi became the country's 20th state, settlers organized this area of of pine forests and swamps for a new county in 1826. They named it Jones County after John Paul Jones, the early American Naval hero who rose from humble Scottish origin to military success during the American Revolution. MS 15 is divided into two sections due to a large gap between Stone County and Perry County. Mississippi Highway 63 (MS 63) is an state highway in southeastern Mississippi that runs north–south for approximately . It serves Jackson County, George County, Greene County, and Wayne County. Route description MS 63 begins in Jackson County in Pascagoula at an interchange with US 90, with the road continuing south into an industrial park as MS 611. It heads north as a four-lane divided highway to immediately leave Pascagoula and enter neighboring Moss Point, where it passes through some neighborhoods to have an intersection with Grierson Street (unsigned MS 618) and cross over the Escatawpa River. De Soto National Forest, named for 16th-century Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto, is of pine forests in southern Mississippi. It is one of the most important protected areas for the biological diversity of the Gulf Coast ecoregion of North America. It is a nationally important site for protection of longleaf pine savannas, pine flatwoods, and longleaf pine forests. More than 90 percent of this ecosystem type has been lost in the United States. The Tuckers of Sherbro are an Afro-European clan from the Southern region of Sierra Leone. The clan's progenitors were an England, English trader and agent, John Tucker, and a Sherbro princess. Starting in the 17th century, the Tuckers ruled over one of the most powerful chiefdoms in the Sherbro country of Southern Sierra Leone, centered on the village of Gbap.
