Mississippi Highway 345 (MS 345) is a north–south state highway in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, connecting the city of Pontotoc with the town of Ecru. Route description MS 345 begins in the city of Pontotoc at an intersection with MS 9 (North Main Street) at the northern edge of downtown. It heads north, along North Main Street, through neighborhoods for to an intersection with U.S. Route 278 (US 278)/ MS 6 (Pontotoc Parkway), where it leaves Pontotoc. The highway winds its way through a mix of farmland and wooded hills for the next several miles, where it crosses Cherry Creek (one of two creeks forming the Little Tallahatchie River) before passing through the community of Cherry Creek, where it makes a sharp left turn. MS 345 now enters the town of Ecru along Main Street and passes through neighborhoods, then straight through downtown before coming to an end at an intersection with MS 15. Pontotoc is a city in, and the county seat of, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, located to the west of the much larger city of Tupelo. The population was 5,625 at the 2010 census. Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word that means, “Land of the Hanging Grapes.” History Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "Land of Hanging Grapes". The Chickasaw nation occupied this area long before Europeans colonized the Southeast, the last in a succession of indigenous peoples who had this territory for thousands of years. Ecru, Mississippi
Ecru is a town in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. The population was 895 at the 2010 census. Ecru is home to the largest upholstered furniture plant in the world which manufactures Ashley Furniture. History Ecru was established by Colonel William Clark Falkner, a prominent post-Civil War businessman. Pontotoc County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It has been identified as one of the most corrupt counties in Northern Mississippi. Mississippi Highway 9 (MS 9) in the Appalachian Foothills (aka North Central Hills) region of northeastern Mississippi, running north–south from MS 30 east of New Albany to MS 12 in Ackerman. Mississippi Highway 6 (MS 6) runs east–west from MS 161 in Lyon, east to MS 25 near Amory. It travels approximately , serving Coahoma, Quitman, Panola, Lafayette, Pontotoc, Lee, and Monroe Counties.
