Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Malbork, Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Wallis Clark
Wallis Hensman Clark (2 March 1882 – 14 February 1961) was an English stage and film actor. Biography Clark was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of William Wallis Clark (1854 - 1930), an engineer. Prior to acting, Clark was an engineer. He began his stage career in Margate, Kent, in 1908. He moved to the United States and acted in numerous plays on the stage, including at the Little Theatre in Philadelphia, for years before moving on to the screen in 1932. He appeared in supporting roles in 136 films between 1931 and 1954. Five of these films won Best Picture: ''It Happened One Night'' (1934), ''Mutiny on the Bounty'' (1935), ''The Great Ziegfeld'' (1936), '' You Can't Take It with You'' (1938), and '' Gone with the Wind'' (1939). Don L. Brodie (May 29, 1904 – January 8, 2001) was an American film and television actor. Early years The son of Mrs. Lottie Brodie, he attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati. Before becoming a professional actor, he worked in Procter & Gamble's main offices. Career As early as 1928, Brodie was acting on stage. A review in ''The Cincinnati Enquirer'' listed him in the cast of the Civic Theater's production of ''The Pigeon''. Brodie worked with Cincinnati's Civic Repertory Theater for nine years. A veteran of over 250 film and television productions, Brodie signed his first film contract with Universal Pictures Corporation in 1931. He appeared as a callow, mustachioed actor in various utility roles in films from the early 1930s. Ben Carter (February 10, 1910/1907 – December 12, 1946) was an American actor and casting agent. He appeared in numerous Hollywood feature films including ''The Harvey Girls'', ''Dixie Jamboree'', and '' Born to Sing''. Early life Carter was born in Fairfield, Iowa. His father was a barber and his mother was a housemaid. He graduated from high school in Aurora, Illinois. Career Carter headed to Los Angeles to work in movies. As a booking agent he focused on African American performers in New York City and Los Angeles. He was one of the first African American performers to land a seven-year contract at 20th Century-Fox. He opened his agency office in 1935. Carter appeared in ''Gone With the Wind'' (1939) as well as casting all the other African American actors and actresses in it, ''Maryland'' (1940) and ''Tin Pan Alley'' (1940). Warner Richmond (born Werner Paul Otto Raetzmann; January 11, 1886 – June 19, 1948) was an American stage and film actor. He began his career as a stock theatre actor and appeared in films in both the silent film and sound eras. His career spanned four decades. He is possibly best recalled for appearances in Westerns in his later career in sound films. Between 1912 and 1946, he appeared in more than 140 films. Vera Lewis (June 10, 1873 – February 8, 1956) was an American film and stage actress, beginning in the silent film era. She appeared in more than 180 films between 1915 and 1947. She was married to actor Ralph Lewis. Biography She was born in Manhattan, where she began acting in stage productions. Her film career started in 1915 with the film ''Hypocrites'', which starred Myrtle Stedman and Courtenay Foote. From 1915 to 1929 she appeared in 63 silent films, including the film classic '' Intolerance'' (1916) where she played the "old maid" Miss Jenkins. Unlike many silent film stars, she made a smooth transition to "talking films", starting with her 1930 appearance in ''Wide Open'', starring Patsy Ruth Miller and Edward Everett Horton.
