Miss Universe Ireland is a national beauty pageant that has selected Ireland's representative to the Miss Universe pageant since 2002. History Beginning in 2002 Andrea Roche, who represented Ireland at Miss Universe 1998 in the United States, was the national director of Miss Universe in Ireland. Through the Andrea Roche Model agency, the contestants trained to be the next representative of Ireland at the contest. Between 2002 and 2015 the Andrea Roche era resulted in only one high-placed result in Miss Universe, in 2010, with Rozanna Purcell. Beginning in 2017 Brittany Mason, former Miss Indiana USA 2008, took over the Miss Universe franchise of the Republic of Ireland in Dublin. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions.
