Miss Universe 1972, the 21st Miss Universe pageant, was held on 29 July, 1972 at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Kerry Anne Wells earned Australia's first Miss Universe crown. Georgina Rizk of Lebanon, was not allowed to crown her successor due to government restrictions because of fears of a terrorist attack. Lebanon did not compete in 1972 and Georgina could not be there to crown Miss Universe 1972. Wells was crowned by Miss Universe 1970, Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico and Miss Universe 1971 1st Runner-Up Toni Rayward. It was the first edition to be held outside the continental United States. Kerry Anne Wells
Kerry Anne Wells (born 25 September 1951 in Perth) is an Australian fashion designer, writer, commentator, news anchor and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 1972. The 1972 pageant was the first to take place outside the continental United States. That year, it was held in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Wells was not crowned by her predecessor, Georgina Rizk because Rizk was not able to travel to Puerto Rico due to government restrictions because of fears of a terrorist attacks after a group of Japanese hired by Arab terrorists, attacked the international airport in Tel Aviv and killed twenty-two Puerto Rican tourists. For that reason Wells was crowned by Miss Universe 1970, Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico. Her crowning moment was not shown on television because of a strike threat among pageant electricians. Miss Universe 1971
Miss Universe 1971 was the 20th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on 24 July 1971. At the end of the event, Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico crowned Georgina Rizk of Lebanon as Miss Universe 1971. It is the first victory of Lebanon in the competition. Tanya Denise Wilson (born June 13, 1950) is an American beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss USA 1972. Wilson had previously been crowned Miss Hawaii USA 1972, and placed in the top twelve at Miss Universe 1972, where she represented the United States. Born in Reno, Nevada, Wilson began her pageantry career competing for Miss Nevada in 1969 and 1970, placing as a runner-up. María Antonieta Cámpoli Prisco (born October 9, 1955 in Italy) is an Italian-Venezuelan pageant titleholder, who was ''Miss Venezuela'' in 1972.
