Miss USA 1964
Miss USA 1964 was the 13th Miss USA pageant, held in Miami Beach, Florida on July 29, 1964. This was the last Miss USA pageant to be held as an inclusive part of the Miss Universe event. The pageant was won by Bobbi Johnson of the District of Columbia, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Marite Ozers of Illinois. Two days after her victory, Johnson went on to place as a top 15 semi-finalist at Miss Universe 1964. Johnson was the first woman from Washington D.C. to win the title. This was the latest Miss USA pageant ever held on this date until the 2020 competition. The rescheduling of the pageant as an independent event from Miss Universe in 1965 meant Johnson reigned for only 10 months and 6 days; apart from first runners-up who inherited the crown when Miss USA won Miss Universe, only 1986 titleholder Christy Fichtner had a shorter reign (8 months and 28 days). Bobbi Johnson
Barbara Joan "Bobbi" Johnson (born March 24, 1945) is an American former computer application engineer and beauty pageant titleholder who held the Miss USA 1964 title and has competed in the Miss Universe pageant. After winning the Miss District of Columbia USA crown, Johnson went on to become the first representative from the District of Columbia to achieve the title of Miss USA, at age 19. She would be the only titleholder from the District until Shauntay Hinton won the crown in 2002. Johnson went on to compete in the Miss Universe 1964 pageant, where she made the semi-finals. Miss Kentucky USA
The Miss Kentucky USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Kentucky in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently directed by Proctor Productions and it was formerly directed by Connie Clark Harrison, Miss Kentucky USA 1976. Tara Conner became the first Kentucky delegate to win Miss USA, after being crowned Miss USA 2006. She later finished as fourth runner-up at Miss Universe 2006. Elle Smith later became the second Kentucky delegate to win Miss USA, being crowned Miss USA 2021. Three Miss Kentucky USA titleholders have also held the Miss Kentucky Teen USA title and competed at Miss Teen USA, including Conner. Miss USA 1962
Miss USA 1962 was the 11th Miss USA pageant, held in Miami, Florida, on July 12, 1962. The pageant was won by Macel Leilani Wilson of Hawaii, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Sharon Brown of Louisiana. Wilson's win gave Hawaii the Miss USA crown at its first attempt, and two days later she was a Top 15 semi-finalist at Miss Universe 1962. Eleven states did not send a delegate to the 1962 pageant, resulting in the lowest number of contestants since the inaugural pageant of 1952. The current titleholder is Heather Nunez of New York City was crowned on June 4, 2022, at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York. She represented New York for the title of Miss USA 2022. Background New York is one of the most successful states at Miss USA, and is ranked third in terms of number and value of placement across all years of competition. Miss USA 1959
Miss USA 1959 was the 8th Miss USA pageant, held at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium, Long Beach, California on 22 July 1959. At the end of the event, Eurlyne Howell of Louisiana crowned Terry Huntingdon of California as Miss USA 1959. It is the first victory of California in the pageant's history. Huntingdon later competed at Miss Universe and was named as second runner-up to eventual winner, Akiko Kojima. Contestants from 46 states and cities competed in this year's pageant. Miss Oregon USA
The Miss Oregon USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Oregon in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently produced by Pageant NW Productions based in Puyallup, Washington. Oregon has only had limited success at Miss USA and has yet to win the title. The highest placed Miss Oregon USA was Gail Atchison who finished 2nd runner-up to Barbara Peterson in 1976. The most recent finalist was Toneata Morgan in 2018. Two Miss Oregon USA titleholders have formerly held the Miss Oregon Teen USA title and competed at Miss Teen USA. Miss Oklahoma USA
The Miss Oklahoma USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Oklahoma in the Miss USA pageant. This pageant is directed by Vanbros and Associates, headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. In 1997, Oklahoma joined the Vanbros group of state pageants for the Miss USA and Teen USA system. Olivia Jordan was crowned Miss USA 2015 on July 12, 2015 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, becoming the first contestant from Oklahoma to win the national title, and as well the 34th state to have the national title. Oklahoma is in the top 20 states in terms of the number of semi-finalists. Miss Ohio USA
The Miss Ohio USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Ohio in the Miss USA pageant, and the name of the title held by that winner. It has previously been known as Miss Ohio Universe. It is produced by Proctor Productions. The pageant is currently held in Springfield and has previously been hosted by Mentor, Steubenville and Portsmouth. Two Ohio representatives, Sue Downey in 1965 and Kim Seelbrede in 1981, have won the Miss USA title and competed in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss New Jersey USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the U.S. state, state of New Jersey in the Miss USA pageant. It is produced by D&D Productions. New Jersey has yet to win the Miss USA title, although from 1989 to 1991 they had two 2nd runners-up and one 1st runner-up in a row. Two years later, another Miss New Jersey USA placed in the finals, and in 2008, Tiffany Andrade finished as 2nd runner up, one of three Miss New Jersey USAs to place third at Miss USA. Miss Mississippi USA
The Miss Mississippi USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Mississippi in the Miss USA pageant. The pageant was directed by Premier Pageants from 2001 to 2010, before becoming part of Greenwood Productions in 2010 under the ownership of Miss Tennessee USA 1989 Kim Greenwood. Mississippi has had 12 Miss USA placements as of 2021. They won Miss USA in 2020. The most recent placement was Asya Branch in 2020, winning the Miss USA 2020 title, becoming the 36th state to have the Miss USA title, 33rd to be crowned. Miss Maryland USA
The Miss Maryland USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state Maryland in the Miss USA pageant. The pageant is directed by D&D Productions. The first Miss USA winner from Maryland, Mary Leona Gage, won Miss USA 1957. However, she was later discovered to be a mother of two sons and was therefore dethroned. In 2012, Nana Meriwether placed 1st runner-up, but became Miss USA 2012 when Olivia Culpo won Miss Universe 2012. Six Maryland titleholders are former Miss Maryland Teen USAs. These four all reigned in the early 1990s, and in fact four out of six titleholders from 1990 to 1995 were former teens. Only four Miss Maryland USA has competed at Miss America.
