Miss USA 1962
Miss USA 1962 was the 11th Miss USA pageant, held in Miami, Florida, on July 12, 1962. The pageant was won by Macel Leilani Wilson of Hawaii, who was crowned by outgoing titleholder Sharon Brown of Louisiana. Wilson's win gave Hawaii the Miss USA crown at its first attempt, and two days later she was a Top 15 semi-finalist at Miss Universe 1962. Eleven states did not send a delegate to the 1962 pageant, resulting in the lowest number of contestants since the inaugural pageant of 1952. Macel Wilson
Macel Patricia Leilani Wilson (born May 5, 1943) is the first Asian American to win the Miss USA beauty pageant (which happened in 1962), a film editor for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, and a visual artist. Miss USA 1962 In 1962, she became Miss USA, becoming the first Asian American and the first titleholder outside of the contiguous United States to win that beauty pageant. Her title at that pageant was Miss Hawaii USA. She went on to place as a semi-finalist in the 1962 Miss Universe Pageant. Ms. Wilson later filled in at the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, Florida when Miss Universe Norma Nolan of Argentina fell ill with the measles. She appeared on ''The Tonight Show'' on October 16, 1962. Miss Pennsylvania USA
The Miss Pennsylvania USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Pennsylvania in the Miss USA pageant. It has been previously known as Miss Pennsylvania Universe. This pageant is independently conducted and produced by Proctor Productions based in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was produced by Sanders & Associates, Inc., dba- Pageant Associates based in Buckhannon, West Virginia from 2001 to 2020. The annual competition is currently held in Johnstown and has previously been hosted by Harrisburg, Greensburg, Monroeville, and Pittsburgh. Michele McDonald, Miss USA 1971, is the only woman from Pennsylvania to win the Miss USA title. At just eighteen, she was the youngest competitor ever to win the crown. Miss Oregon USA
The Miss Oregon USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Oregon in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently produced by Pageant NW Productions based in Puyallup, Washington. Oregon has only had limited success at Miss USA and has yet to win the title. The highest placed Miss Oregon USA was Gail Atchison who finished 2nd runner-up to Barbara Peterson in 1976. The most recent finalist was Toneata Morgan in 2018. Two Miss Oregon USA titleholders have formerly held the Miss Oregon Teen USA title and competed at Miss Teen USA. The current titleholder is Manju Bangalore of Corvallis, Oregon and was crowned on October 15, 2022 at Sherwood Center for the Fine Arts in Sherwood, Oregon. The Miss New York USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of New York in the Miss USA pageant. It is directed by D&D Productions. The current titleholder is Heather Nunez of New York City was crowned on June 4, 2022, at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York. She represented New York for the title of Miss USA 2022. Background New York is one of the most successful states at Miss USA, and is ranked third in terms of number and value of placement across all years of competition. Miss New Hampshire USA
The Miss New Hampshire USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of New Hampshire in the Miss USA pageant. It was directed by The Clemente Organization based in Malden, Massachusetts from 2013 to 2019. GDB Theatre and Pageant Productions became the new directors for the event starting from 2020 competition. New Hampshire has had little success at Miss USA that was not yet placed until 1962, the fifth-to-last state has made its ever placement, and has only placed five times. Miss Indiana USA
The Miss Indiana USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Indiana in the Miss USA pageant and the name of the title held by those representatives. This pageant is currently produced by Crown Moxie. The pageant is currently held in Noblesville and has previously been hosted by Anderson, Michigan City, Indianapolis, Carmel and Fort Wayne. The most recent placement was Alexis Lete in 2020, who finished 3rd runner-up. Miss Illinois USA
The Miss Illinois USA pageant is a competition that selects the representative for the state Illinois in the Miss USA pageant. It is directed by Vanbros and Associates and is previously directed by D&D Productions from 2001 to 2014 before becoming part of Vanbros organization in 2014, headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. Illinois is one of the most successful states in the competition. It is one of only four states to have won four or more Miss USA titles and one of only four states to win two Miss USA titles in consecutive years. Miss Arizona USA is the beauty pageant that selects the representative for the state of Arizona in the Miss USA pageant, and the name of the title held by its winner. The pageant is directed by Casting Crown Productions. Arizona's most successful placements were in 1965 and 1980, when Jane Nelson and Jineane Ford, respectively, placed as the first runner-up. Miss Nevada USA
The Miss Nevada USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Nevada in the Miss USA pageant. While Nevada did well in the early years of the Miss USA pageant, they only placed once from 1987 to 2000. This streak was broken by Gina Giacinto's finalist placing in Miss USA 2001.
