The Miss Guatemala of Miss Guatemala Universo is a national Beauty pageant in Guatemala. The pageant was founded in 1955, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe. History Miss Guatemala was founded in 1955 and sent its first winner to represent Guatemala at the 1955 Miss Universe Pageant. A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. San Marcos is a department in northwestern Guatemala, on the Pacific Ocean and along the western Guatemala-Mexico border. The department's capital is the city of San Marcos. Santa Rosa () is a department in Guatemala. The capital is Cuilapa. History 1913 earthquake On Saturday 8 March 1913 and magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit Santa Rosa, destroying its department capital, Cuilapa. Alta Verapaz () is a Departments of Guatemala, department in the north central part of Guatemala. The capital and chief city of the department is Cobán. Jutiapa Department
Jutiapa Department is a department of Guatemala that borders along El Salvador and the Pacific Ocean. The capital is the city of Jutiapa. As of 2018, it has a population of 488,395. The department is divided into seventeen municipalities. Jutiapa is the country's southeasternmost department and officially the only department with no Mayan descendants native to the region. The main crops are sorghum, tobacco, onion and corn. The climate is dry. An important attraction is the cattle fair. It is at 405 m above sea level. Rogelia Cruz Martínez (31 August 1941 – 11 January 1968) was a Guatemalan beauty queen and left-wing political activist. After she won the 1958 Miss Guatemala title, she joined the Guatemalan Party of Labour and became romantically involved with its leader, Leonardo Castillo Johnson. She was ultimately kidnapped and murdered for her association with the party and Johnson.
