Escuintla () is one of the 22 departments of Guatemala. The capital of the department is the city of Escuintla. Escuintla covers an area of 4,384 km² and is situated in the coastal lowland region, directly south of Guatemala City, and bordered by the Pacific Ocean. Escuintla produces about 43 percent of gross domestic product of Guatemala. Iztapa
Iztapa (), or Puerto de Iztapa, is a municipality in the Escuintla department of Guatemala. It is located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by Michatoya and Maria Linda Rivers, and also by the Canal de Chiquimulilla. Its population is about 15,000 people. Etymology As of 1850, the British were referring to the Iztapa as Yetapa. Archaeology Fishtail points, the most common style of tool manufacturing in Mesoamerica, were discovered in Iztapa (c. 7700–7300 BCE). The Museo Regional de Arqueología de la Democracia ("Regional Archaeological Museum of La Democracia") is an archaeological museum in the municipality of La Democracia in the department of Escuintla in Guatemala.REDCAMUS. Sipacate
Sipacate is a resort town and municipality on the Pacific coast of Guatemala, in Escuintla Department about west of Puerto San José. It is promoted as a venue for surfing. Being roughly in the center of the Guatemalan coastline, it is used as a breakpoint for storm warnings. The Sipicate-Naranjo National Park is located east of the town. The municipality was formerly a part of La Gomera Municipality just north of Sipacate. Archaeology Some very early human settlements are documented in Sipacate, connected with early agriculture. Palín is a municipality in the Escuintla department of Guatemala. The town of Palín, which is the municipal seat, is located on the foothills of the Sierra Madre volcanic chain, south of Guatemala City.
