Miss Europe 1938
Miss Europe 1938, was the 11th edition of the Miss Europe pageant and the tenth and final edition under Maurice de Waleffe. The contest ended due to events leading to World War II. After the war ended Maurice de Waleffe died in 1946 leaving the pageant without an organizer until 1948 when Mr. Roger Zeigler (of the Moulin Rouge) and Claude Berr founded the Mondial Events Organization which started to sponsor and organize the pageant that year. This lasted until 2003 when the Mondial Events Org. sold the pageant to Endemol France (the French branch of the Dutch company Endemol). This years contest was held in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 10, 1938. Sirkka Salonen of Finland, was crowned Miss Europe 1938. Miss Europe is a beauty pageant for European women from all over Europe. It was established in February 1927 by Fanamet, the European distributor of Paramount, as a one-off event where the winner was to star in a film directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. After the initial twelve-person jury couldn't decide between 10 contestants, a runoff election was held where Murnau chose the winner. Murnau ended up choosing Štefica Vidačić of Yugoslavia as the winner and the first ever Miss Europe. Miss Europe was later re-established in December 1928 by French journalist Maurice de Waleffe (1874–1946), who also created, in 1920, what by 1927 had become the Miss France pageant. Miss Europe 1948 was the 12th annual Miss Europe. The Miss Europe pageant was cancelled for 9 years due to the onset of World War II. The pageant came back with new sponsors and with only 12 entrants. The new sponsors are Mr. Roger Zeigler (of the Moulin Rouge) and Claude Berr both of whom later created the Mondial Events Organization which owned the pageant until after Miss Europe 2002 when Zeigler and the Mondial Events Org. sold the pageant to Endemol France (the French branch of the Dutch company Endemol). Miss Suomi (Finnish for ''Miss Finland'') is a national beauty pageant in Finland. The pageant was founded in 1931, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe.
