Minzu Hotel
The Minzu Hotel (, literally "National Hotel") is located on West Chang'an Avenue, in Xicheng District, Beijing, China. Having its opening in 1959, it was one of the Ten Great Buildings of Beijing in 1950s, and has hosted numerous foreign delegations. It is also a common place for press conferences. ''Zhonghua minzu'' (, ) is a political term in modern Chinese nationalism related to the concepts of nation-building, ethnicity, and race in the Chinese nationality. ''Zhonghua minzu'' was established during the early Beiyang (1912–1927) and Nationalist (1928–1949) periods to include Han people and four major non-Han ethnic groups: the Man (Manchus), the Meng (Mongols), the Hui (ethnic groups of Islamic faith in Northwest China), and the Zang (Tibetans), under the notion of a republic of five races ( or ''Wǔzú gònghé'') advocated by Sun Yat-sen and the Chinese Nationalist Party. West Chang'an Avenue
West Chang'an Avenue () is a major avenue in urban Beijing. It forms part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. Location It stretches from the intersection with Xidan in the west until Tian'anmen Square in the east. The Beijing Books Building and CAAC building all sit along the avenue. Some of the narrowest parts of Chang'an Avenue are immediately before and after Zhongnanhai. The southernmost entrance, Xinhuamen, is right on the avenue. Xicheng District
Xicheng District () is a district of Beijing. Xicheng District spans , covering the western half of the old city (largely inside the 2nd Ring Road - the eastern half is Dongcheng District, Beijing, Dongcheng District), and has 706,691 inhabitants (2000 Census). The Ten Great Buildings () are ten public buildings that were built in Beijing in 1959, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
