Minor Threat (album)
''Minor Threat'' (also referred to as ''First Two Seven Inches'') is a compilation album by the American hardcore punk band Minor Threat. It was released in March 1984 through Dischord Records. The compilation consisted of the group's first and second extended plays, ''Minor Threat'' (originally released June 1981) and ''In My Eyes'' (originally released December 1981). The 1984 ''Minor Threat'' LP featured the same cover as the 1981 ''Minor Threat'' EP, depicting vocalist Ian MacKaye's younger brother Alec ( Untouchables, The Faith). The image has been imitated by punk bands such as Rancid on their album '' ...And Out Come the Wolves'' and in the Major Threat ad campaign by Nike. All the tracks from the ''Minor Threat'' and ''In My Eyes'' EPs are available on CD on the Minor Threat's 1989 compilation album '' Complete Discography'' and also on ''Dischord 1981: The Year in 7"s''. Minor Threat
Minor Threat was an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C. by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. MacKaye and Nelson had played in several other bands together, and recruited bassist Brian Baker and guitarist Lyle Preslar to form Minor Threat. They added a fifth member, Steve Hansgen, in 1982, playing bass, while Baker switched to second guitar. The band was relatively short-lived, disbanding after only three years together, but had a strong influence on the punk scene, both stylistically and in establishing a " do it yourself" ethic for music distribution and concert promotion. Minor Threat's song " Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, which emphasized a lifestyle without alcohol or other drugs, or promiscuous sex. Alec MacKaye
Alec MacKaye (born 1966) is an American singer and musician best known as a member of the DC hardcore bands Untouchables, The Faith, and Ignition. In the mid-1990s Alec joined the band The Warmers as a vocalist and guitarist. ''Mondo James Dean'', an anthology of poetry and short-fiction edited by Richard Peabody and Lucinda Ebersole, was dedicated to MacKaye. Personal life MacKaye is the younger brother of Minor Threat & Fugazi singer and guitarist Ian MacKaye. His sister in law, Amy Farina was a member of The Warmers with Alec years prior to marrying his brother. He is shown on the cover of Minor Threat's self-titled EP, ''Minor Threat'', and later the '' Complete Discography''. He is also featured on the cover of The Teen Idles' '' Minor Disturbance'' EP. Rage Against The Machine
Rage Against the Machine (often abbreviated as RATM or shortened to simply Rage) is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the group consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. The band are known for their melding of heavy metal and rap music with punk rock and funk influences, and their revolutionary socialist political views. Rap metal is a subgenre of rap rock and alternative metal music which combines hip hop with heavy metal. It usually consists of heavy metal guitar riffs, funk metal elements, rapped vocals and sometimes turntables. In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Don Zientara
Don Zientara ( ) is an American record producer and musician. He owns and runs Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia, located just outside Washington D.C., and is most widely known for his production work with Fugazi, Minor Threat and various other Dischord Records artists. Zientara released four albums of music on the Northern Liberties label. Music by Zientara has also been released by Crooked Beat Records in Alexandria, Virginia. He contributed four songs to ''A Bang On The Ear'', released in 2016 for Record Store Day. He also contributed to ''Recutting The Crap, Volume One'', a tribute to the Clash released by Crooked Beat Records. Straight edge (sometimes abbreviated sXe or signified by XXX or X) is a subculture of hardcore punk whose adherents refrain from using alcohol, tobacco, and other recreational drugs, in reaction to the excesses of punk subculture. For some, this extends to refraining from engaging in promiscuous sex, to following a vegetarian or vegan diet, and to not using caffeine or prescription drugs. ''Complete Discography'' is a 1989 compilation album released by the American hardcore punk band Minor Threat on the band's own Dischord Records. As the name implies, it contains the band's entire discography at the time, including their three EPs, the '' Out of Step'' album and '' Flex Your Head'' compilation tracks. Some tracks were unreleased at the time and didn't appear on this compilation, but were later released. This includes the songs "Understand" and "Asshole Dub" from ''20 Years of Dischord''. The cover is very similar to that of ''Minor Threat'', featuring the same photo of singer Ian MacKaye's younger brother, Alec MacKaye. The album was released with the cover in multiple colors, including red and green and a 2003 remastered version in blue and yellow. In 2018, ''Pitchfork'' ranked it the 23rd best album of the 1980s, while ''LA Weekly'' ranked it the 2nd best hardcore punk album of all time in 2013. ''...And Out Come the Wolves'' is the third studio album by American punk rock band Rancid. It was released on August 22, 1995, through Epitaph Records. Rancid's popularity and catchy songs made them the subject of a major label bidding war (hence the title, ''...And Out Come the Wolves'' taken from a poem in Jim Carroll's '' The Basketball Diaries'') that ended with the band staying on Epitaph.
