The 35th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. William Windom
William Windom (May 10, 1827January 29, 1891) was an American politician from Minnesota. He served as U.S. Representative from 1859 to 1869, and as U.S. Senator from 1870 to January 1871, from March 1871 to March 1881, and from November 1881 to 1883. He also served two non-consecutive times as Secretary of the Treasury from March to November 1881, and from 1889 to 1891, under three Presidents. He was a Republican. He was the great-grandfather of actor William Windom, who was named for him. Early life Windom was born in Belmont County, Ohio. Henry Martin Arens
Henry Martin Arens (November 21, 1873 – October 6, 1963) was a politician who served in many offices in Minnesota, including the U.S. House of Representatives. Arens was born as ''Heinrich Martin Arens'' in Bausenrode near Fretter in the Kingdom of Prussia, today part of the municipality of Finnentrop, Westphalia, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in November 1889 and was a farmer near Jordan, Minnesota. His first public office was as a member of the board of aldermen for Jordan from 1905 to 1913. He went on to become a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1919 to 1922 and in the state senate from 1923 to 1930. In 1930, he was elected the 26th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota and served one two-year term. The 1912 United States House of Representatives elections were held, coinciding with the 1912 United States presidential election, election of President Woodrow Wilson. Wilson's victory was partly due to the division of the opposition Republican Party (United States), Republican Party into conservative and progressive factions. While many progressives stayed within the party framework, they maintained lukewarm relationships with Republican leadership. James Manahan
James Manahan (March 12, 1866 – January 8, 1932) was a U.S. Representative from Minnesota. Manahan was born near Chatfield in Fillmore County, Minnesota to Irish immigrant parents. He graduated from the Normal School of Winona, Minnesota in 1886. For two years, he worked as a school teacher in Graceville. He later attended the University of Wisconsin Law School, and eventually earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis in 1889. Having been admitted to the bar the same year, he began practicing law in St. Paul, later relocating his practice to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1895. He moved back to Minneapolis in 1905, and practiced law there until 1912, when he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third Congress (March 4, 1913 – March 3, 1915).
