Ministry Of Health Promotion (Ontario)
The Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport in the Canadian province of Ontario was responsible for the promotion of healthy living and disease prevention in the province. Between 2005 and July 2010, the organization's name was the Ministry of Health Promotion. The ministry was created in 2005 by the government of Dalton McGuinty. The first Minister of Health Promotion was Jim Watson; the second and last minister was Margarett Best. Following the 2011 Ontario general election, the ministry was merged into the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The EatRight Ontario Service The EatRight Ontario service was launched in 2007. It is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, and is operated by Dietitians of Canada. Dalton McGuinty
Dalton James Patrick McGuinty Jr. (born July 19, 1955) is a former Canadian politician who served as the 24th premier of Ontario from 2003 to 2013. He was the first Liberal leader to win two majority governments since Mitchell Hepburn nearly 70 years earlier. In 2011, he became the first Liberal premier to secure a third consecutive term since Oliver Mowat after his party was re-elected in that year's provincial election. McGuinty was born in Ottawa. He studied science at university, but ended up taking a law degree and practiced law in Ottawa. His father served as a Liberal member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) from 1987 until his death in 1990. Jim Watson (Canadian Politician)
James Alexander Watson (born July 30, 1961) is a Canadian politician who served as the 59th mayor of Ottawa from 2010 to 2022. Previously, he served as an Ottawa city councillor from 1991 to 1997, and as mayor from 1997 to 2000. Watson subsequently represented the riding of Ottawa West—Nepean in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2010. He served in the Cabinet of Premier Dalton McGuinty in the portfolios of Consumer and Business Services (2003–2005), Health Promotion (2005–2007), and Municipal Affairs and Housing (2007–2010). Margarett R. Best is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2007 to 2013 who represented the riding of Scarborough—Guildwood. 2011 Ontario General Election
The 2011 Ontario general election was held on October 6, 2011, to elect members of the 40th Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The Ontario Liberal Party was elected to a minority government, with the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (PC Party) serving as the Official Opposition (Canada), Official Opposition and the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP) serving as a third party.
