Ministry Of Finance And Prices (Cuba)
The Ministry of Finance and Prices of Cuba is responsible for managing the public finances of Cuba, including budget, tax, treasury, price and public credit policies. History The organization was called Ministry of Finance from 1902 to 1965. Between 1965 and 1976, the ministry was abolished and its functions passed to the Central Bank of Cuba. Between 1976 and 1994, these functions were transferred to the State Finance Committee. Finally, in 1994, the State Finance Committee merged with the State Price Committee to form the current Ministry of Finance and Prices. Old Havana
Old Havana ( es, link=no, La Habana Vieja) is the city-center (downtown) and one of the 15 municipalities (or boroughs) forming Havana, Cuba. It has the second highest population density in the city and contains the core of the original city of Havana. The positions of the original Havana city walls are the modern boundaries of Old Havana. In 1982, Old Havana was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, because of its unique Baroque and neoclassical architecture, its fortifications, and its historical importance as a stop on the route to the New World. A safeguarding campaign was launched a year later to restore the authentic character of the buildings. Manuel Dorta Duque
Manuel Antonio Dorta-Duque (June 27, 1896, Matanzas – July 6, 1964, Havana) was a Cuban politician, lawyer, writer, university professor, and signator of the 1940 Constitution of Cuba. He was National Chief of the Order of Knights of Columbus and Rector of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences in Havana. He was named Defender of the Catholic Faith in Cuba, and on July 27, 1950 Pope Pius XII granted him the Pro-Ecclesia et Pontiff distinction for his efforts. He was a benefactor and generous donor to the Catholic Church, and helped build thIglesia Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria dedicated to the Virgen from the Island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, where his ancestral roots can be found. In 2008, this cathedral was named a UNESCO World Heritage site.
