Minehead Association Football Club is a football club based in Minehead, Somerset, England. The club are currently members of the and play at the Recreation Ground. The club is affiliated to the Somerset County FA. History The club was established in 1889 (100 years before the legend Ed Styles was born) and initially played in local leagues until joining the Western League in 1923. After finishing in tenth place in 1924–25, they were relegated to the newly established Division Two. However, after finishing bottom in 1926–27 and 1927–28, the club withdrew from the league. Minehead returned to the Western League in 1949, joining Division Three. After finishing third in their first season back, they were promoted to Division Two. A fourth-place finish in 1957–58 saw the club promoted to Division One. In 1970–71 they reached the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time, but lost 2–1 at home to Shrewsbury Town. Minehead
Minehead is a coastal town and civil parish in Somerset, England. It lies on the south bank of the Bristol Channel, north-west of the county town of Taunton, from the boundary with the county of Devon and in proximity of the Exmoor National Park. The parish of Minehead has a population of approximately 11,981, making it the most populous town in the western part of the Somerset West and Taunton local government district, which in turn, is the worst area in the country for social mobility. This figure includes Alcombe and Woodcombe, suburban villages which have been subsumed into Minehead. There is evidence of human occupation in the area since the Bronze and Iron Ages. Cliff Myers
Clifford William Myers (23 September 1946 – 8 February 2019) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Torquay United, Charlton Athletic and Brentford as a utility player. He went on to have a long career in non-League football and is regarded as a cult hero amongst the supporters of Yeovil Town, for whom he made 329 appearances. Gerry Cakebread
Gerald Cakebread OBE (1 April 1936 – 16 September 2009) was an English footballer who made over 340 appearances in the Football League for Brentford as a goalkeeper. He remained a part-time player throughout his professional career. Cakebread was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in May 2015 and was described as "arguably Brentford's finest ever goalkeeper". Club career Brentford Cakebread began his career as a junior at the club he supported as a boy, Brentford. He was a part of the youth team which reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup during the 1951–52 season. The Football Association Challenge Vase, usually referred to as the FA Vase, is an annual football competition for teams playing in Steps 5 and 6 of the English National League System (or equivalently, tier 9 or 10 of the overall English football league system). For the 2017–18 season 619 entrants were accepted, with two qualifying rounds preceding the six proper rounds, semi-finals (played over two legs) and final to be played at Wembley Stadium. The Football Association Challenge Trophy, commonly known as the FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the English Football Association and competed for primarily by semi-professional teams. The competition was instigated in 1969 to cater to those non-league clubs that paid their players and were therefore not eligible to enter the FA Amateur Cup. Eligibility rules have changed over time, but from 2008 onwards the competition has been open to clubs playing in Steps 1–4 of the National League System, equivalent to tiers 5–8 of the overall English football league system. The Somerset Premier Cup is an association football knock-out cup competition run by the Somerset County Football Association (SFA). According to the current rules of the competition, to enter clubs first affiliation must be with the Somerset County FA, have the use of floodlights and be of a minimum of Western League standard (Level 10 of the English football league system). The competition was first held during the 1928–29 season known as the Somerset Professional Cup, replacing the Somerset Senior Cup as the most prestigious County cup in Somerset. Glastonbury (, ) is a town and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated at a dry point on the low-lying Somerset Levels, south of Bristol.
