At the conclusion of the final competition, Mindy Duncan of Oregon was crowned by outgoing queen Kristi Addis of Mississippi. This was the first of two years the pageant was held in San Bernardino. It was hosted by Dick Clark for the first time, He would later host the Miss USA Pageants from 1989 to 1993 and Miss Universe Pageants from 1990 to 1993 and returned to The Miss Teen USA Pageants in 1991 on CBS and remained as host until 1993, with color commentary from Tracy Scoggins. This was also the last time the State Costume competition took place and would not return until thirty-three years later in 2021, under a different organization. The Miss Louisiana Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Louisiana in the Miss Teen USA pageant. Louisiana is in the top 10 most successful states at Miss Teen USA in terms of number and value of placements. Notable former Miss Louisiana Teen USA titleholders are Miss USA 1996 Ali Landry, Miss Teen USA 2004 Shelley Hennig, Miss Teen USA 2015 Katherine Haik, and Jennifer Dupont, who placed first runner-up at Miss America 2005. Landry and Hennig have gone on to successful acting careers. Candice Stewart, Miss Louisiana Teen USA 2002 was a contestant on CBS's '' Big Brother 15'' in 2013. Miss Alaska Teen USA
Miss Alaska Teen USA is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Alaska in the Miss Teen USA pageant and the name of the title held by that winner. The pageant is part of the Miss Universe Organization which also holds the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. The Miss Alaska Teen USA pageant is generally held in the late fall or early winter in Anchorage, Alaska together with the Miss Alaska USA. The current directors are former titleholders and sisters Rachel Saldana (2002) and Sonja Garness (2005). Miss Teen USA 1986, the 4th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from Ocean Center, Daytona Beach, Florida on January 21, 1986. At the conclusion of the final competition, Allison Brown of Oklahoma was crowned by outgoing queen Kelly Hu of Hawaii. This was the first year the pageant was held in Daytona Beach, although it had been staged in Miami the previous year. The pageant was hosted by Michael Young, the host from 1983 to 1984 who returned from hosting after a break in 1985. The Miss Oklahoma Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Oklahoma in the Miss Teen USA pageant. This pageant is directed by Vanbros and Associates, headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. In 1997, Oklahoma joined the Vanbros group of state pageants for the Miss USA and Teen USA system. Oklahoma is in the top 5 most successful states at Miss Teen USA in terms of number and value of placements. Oklahoma's best performance came in the 1980s through the early 1990s. After Oklahoma was taken over by Vanbros there was a six-year lapse, before Nikki Carver brought the state back into the semi-finals in 2003. The state's most recent placement was in 2019, when Abigail Billings finished in the top 15. Miss USA 1986 was the 35th Miss USA pageant, televised live on May 20 from Miami, Florida on CBS. The ceremonies were hosted by Bob Barker. At the conclusion of the final competition, Christy Fichtner of Texas was crowned Miss USA, becoming the second consecutive winner from Texas. Fichtner served the pageant for only nine months as the pageant was moved into the newly-established February schedule in 1987. The Miss West Virginia Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of West Virginia in the Miss Teen USA pageant. This pageant is independently conducted and produced by Sanders & Associates, Inc., dba- Pageant Associates based in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Despite a relatively strong start in the 1980s, with two semi-finals finishes, no Miss West Virginia Teen USA placed from 1988 to 2005, when Andrea Turner placed 2nd runner-up to Allie LaForce of Ohio. The Miss New Mexico Teen USA competition is a pageant that selects the representative for the state of New Mexico in the broader Miss Teen USA pageant. It is directed by Laura's Productions based in El Paso, Texas. New Mexico has seen six state teens place in the Miss Teen USA pageant with three of these placements occurring during the 1980s, which and made New Mexico one of the more successful states in that decade. Miss New Jersey Teen USA
The Miss New Jersey Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of New Jersey in the Miss Teen USA pageant. New Jersey has had a moderated success at Miss Teen USA, with ten placements. In the first twenty years of the competition, New Jersey only recorded three placements; from 2003 they placed in four of five years.
