Minburn, Alberta
Minburn is a hamlet in central, Alberta, Canada within the County of Minburn No. 27. It is located on the Yellowhead Highway and the Canadian National Railway, approximately west of the Town of Vermilion and east of the City of Edmonton. History Minburn was incorporated as a village on June 24, 1919. It dissolved from village status on July 1, 2015, to become a hamlet under the jurisdiction of the County of Minburn No. 27. Demographics In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Minburn had a population of 78 living in 37 of its 42 total private dwellings, a change of from its 2016 population of 115. With a land area of , it had a population density of in 2021. Hamlets in the province of Alberta, Canada, are unincorporated communities administered by, and within the boundaries of, specialized municipalities or rural municipalities ( municipal districts, improvement districts and special areas). They consist of five or more dwellings (a majority of which are on parcels of land that are smaller than 1,850 m2), have a generally accepted boundary and name, and contain parcels of land used for non-residential purposes. Section 59 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) enables specialized municipalities and municipal districts to designate a hamlet, while Section 590 of the MGA enables the Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs to designate a hamlet within an improvement district. Yellowhead Highway
The Yellowhead Highway (french: Route Yellowhead) is a major interprovincial highway in Western Canada that runs from Winnipeg to Graham Island off the coast of British Columbia via Saskatoon and Edmonton. It stretches across the four western Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway system and the larger National Highway System, but should not be confused with the more southerly, originally-designated Trans-Canada Highway. The highway was officially opened in 1970. Beginning in 1990, the green and white Trans-Canada logo was used to designate the roadway. The highway is named for the Yellowhead Pass, the route chosen to cross the Canadian Rockies. The pass and the highway are named after a fur trader and explorer named Pierre Bostonais.
