Minas Hadjimichael
Minas Hadjimichael (born 1956) is the Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Cyprus. He presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 25 August 2008. Education Hadjimichael holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Athens and a masters of arts in political science and international relations, which he received at Georgia Southern University in the United States. He has also received instruction in European Union concerns from the Civil Service College of London, and was a participant in a program hosted by the United States Information Agency (USIA) on the United States Federal Government System. In addition to his academic credentials, Hadjimichael also speaks Greek, English and French. A permanent representative is a diplomat who is the head of a country’s diplomatic mission to an international organisation. Organizations that receive permanent representatives from their member states include the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, NATO, the European Union, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Organization of American States. Permanent representatives can be sent to subunits or field offices of an organization. United States Information Agency
The United States Information Agency (USIA), which operated from 1953 to 1999, was a United States agency devoted to "public diplomacy". In 1999, prior to the reorganization of intelligence agencies by President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton assigned USIA's cultural exchange and non-broadcasting intelligence functions to the newly created Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. USIA's broadcasting functions were moved to the newly created Broadcasting Board of Governors.
