Minamiaso, Kumamoto
is a village in Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. It was formed on February 13, 2005 from the merger of the villages of Chōyō, Hakusui and Kugino. Neighbouring towns are Takamori, Ōzu, and Nishihara. As of April 30, 2019, the village has an estimated population of 10,535 and a population density of 77 persons per km². The total area is 137.30 km². Geography Climate Minamiaso has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification ''Cfa'') with hot summers and cool winters. Precipitation is high, but there is a pronounced difference between the wetter summers and drier winters. The average annual temperature in Minamiaso is . was a village located in Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the village had an estimated population of 2,566 and a population density of 50.67 persons per km². The total area was 50.64 km². Tateno Station (Kumamoto)
is a railway station in Minamiaso, Kumamoto, Japan. It is jointly operated by JR Kyushu and the Minami Aso Railway and is a transfer station between the JR Kyushu Hōhi Main Line and the Minami Aso Takamori Line. The station is also noted for the three-stage switchback that trains need to execute in order to proceed to , the next station on the Hōhi Main Line. Miyaji Station
is a railway station on the Hohi Main Line operated by JR Kyushu in Aso, Kumamoto, Japan. Lines The station is served by the Hōhi Main Line and is located 53.4 km from the starting point of the line at . Layout The station consists of an island platform serving two tracks at grade. The station building is a wooden structure of traditional Japanese design with a double tiled roof and has been built and decorated to resemble a Shinto shrine. It houses a waiting room and a staffed ticket window. Access to the island platform is by means of a level crossing. Higo-Ōzu Station
is a railway station on the Hohi Main Line operated by JR Kyushu in Ōzu, Kumamoto, Japan. Lines The station is served by the Hōhi Main Line and is located 22.6 km from the starting point of the line at . Layout The station consists of a side and an island platform serving three tracks at grade. The station building is located on the north side and is a traditional Japanese style wooden structure which houses a staffed ticket window and a waiting room. Aso Caldera
Aso caldera (also known as Asosan, the Aso Volcano or Mount Aso, although the later term usually is used related to its currently active vents) is a geographical feature of Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. It stretches 25 kilometers north to south and 18 kilometers east to west. The central core "Aso Gogaku" is the five major mountains in the area. Aso valley (Asodani) runs along the northern base of Mount Aso and Nango valley (Nangodani) along the south. According to research of caldera sediment, lakes used to exist in these valleys. The dried up lake areas have come to be called Old Aso Lake, Kugino Lake, and Aso Valley Lake. The Kikuchi, Shirakawa and Kurokawa rivers now drain the caldera.
