''Millie Jackson'' is the self-titled debut album by singer-songwriter, Millie Jackson. This album is different from all her other album to follow in that this album features some Motown style songs. It includes the R&B hits "A Child of God (It's Hard to Believe)", "My Man, A Sweet Man" and "Ask Me What You Want." The album was arranged by Tony Camillo and Bert de Coteaux. In 2006, Ace Records in the UK digitally remastered this album (along with four other best-selling Millie Jackson albums) and released it on CD with bonus tracks and extensive liner notes. Mildred Virginia Jackson (born July 15, 1944) is an American Rhythm and blues, R&B and Soul music, soul recording artist. Beginning her career in the early 1960s, three of Jackson's albums have been certified Music recording certification, gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA for over 500,000 copies sold. Jackson's songs often include long spoken sections, sometimes humorous, sometimes sexually explicit. She recorded songs in an Rhythm and Blues, R&B, disco, or Dance music, dance-music style and occasionally in a Country music, country style. Occasionally, Jackson has been called the "mother of Rapping, hip-hop," or of rapping itself. This has more to do with the long spoken sections in many of her songs as opposed to actual rapping. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. It then went through several name changes, being known as Soul LPs in the 1970s and Top Black Albums in the 1980s, before returning to the R&B identification in 1990 and affixing a hip hop designation in 1999 to reflect the latter's growing sales and relationship to R&B during the decade. Billy Nichols
William Lee Nichols (born 1940) is an American guitarist and soul songwriter from Carrollton, Mississippi. Early years Nichols was one of nine children born to Laura Bell and Tom Sanders. Sanders was a farmer who played blues guitar in his spare time. Inspired by his father and blues musicians he heard on the radio, Nichols taught himself guitar. Aged 14, Nichols' family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where Nichols played with various bands including a gospel group named The Bells of Harmony. In 1963, Nichols joined Jimmy Vick and The Victors and recorded a single. The group were mentioned in ''Billboard'' and got some local radio airplay but by November, the group broke up. Career In 1964, Nichols moved to Detroit and stayed with his uncle. He was hired by Motown Records where his first job was playing with Martha and the Vandellas. Joe Simon (September 7, 1936 – December 13, 2021) was an American soul and R&B musician. He began as a gospel artist singing with the Golden West Singers in the Bay Area in California. A consistent presence on the US charts between 1964 and 1981, Simon charted 51 U.S. Pop and R&B chart hits between 1964 and 1981, including eight times in the US top forty, thirty-eight times in the top 40 of the US R&B charts, and 13 chart hits in Canada. His biggest hits included three number one entries on the US ''Billboard'' R&B chart: "The Chokin' Kind" (1969), " Power of Love" (1972), and "Get Down, Get Down (Get on the Floor)" (1975).
