Millewa Football League
The Millewa Football League is an Australian rules football league with teams based in north-western Victoria and south-western New South Wales, Australia. The clubs are mostly based within the same area as the clubs in the Sunraysia Football League, but generally represent smaller towns and communities. Clubs only field one senior football team and up to five netball teams. History The ''Millewa Football Association'' was reformed in 1925. At this time it had teams representing Lock 9, Lake Cullulleraine and Werrimull, and a team called "the Kangaroos". Lake Cullulleraine were the premiers that year. A fortnight after the grand final, a combined association team played the Mildura Football Club in a charity match. In 1932, the now ''Millewa Football League'' contained teams from Bambill, Karawinna, Meringur, Merinee, Pirlta and Werrimull. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Bambill, Victoria
Bambill is a locality situated on the Redcliffs-Meringur Road in the Sunraysia region. It is about 6 kilometres east from Yarrara and 9 kilometres west from Werrimull. The area was settled in the 1920s, the Post Office opening on 20 April 1926 (closing in 1959). The railway opened in 1925, and the station was closed in 1977. Mallee (Victoria)
The Mallee covers the most northwesterly part of Victoria, bounded by the South Australian and New South Wales borders. Werrimull, Victoria
Werrimull is a small town and locality in the Rural City of Mildura, part of the Sunraysia region of Victoria. The place by road, is situated about 10 kilometres west of Karawinna and 10 kilometres east of Bambill. It is west southwest of Mildura, 13 kilometres south of the Sturt Highway opposite Lake Cullulleraine. At the , Werrimull and the surrounding area had a population of 112, declining from 320 in 2011. ''Werrimull'' is an indigenous Australian word believed to mean Eagle. ''Werrimull'' is sometimes misspelt ''Werrimul'' possibly because it is confused with an indigenous group from the Horsham region. Montmorency Football Club
Montmorency Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Montmorency, Victoria, currently competing in Division 1 in the Northern Football League. History The club was formed in 1924 by Harold Hodgson and was original based at Memorial park, Greensborough. In 1925 the club relocated to its current home and joined the Diamond Valley Football League where it competed until 1931 before going into recess. The Club was revived in 1936 and returned to the DVFL where it has remained ever since. Montmorency won its first premiership in 1951 followed by a second premiership in 1954. It was then another 22 years before the club won its third premiership in 1976. After grand final defeats in 1977 and 1978 the club won its fourth and most recent A Grade premiership in 1979. Nangiloc, Victoria
Nangiloc is a small rural community in North Western Victoria on the south (left) bank of the Murray River, about 50 km south east of Mildura. Primarily an agricultural settlement, at the 2021 census, Nangiloc and the surrounding area had a population of 153. Nangiloc and nearby localities Iraak and Colignan were established as soldier settlement farming areas after World War I, road access to the area being from the west via Boonoonar on what is now the Calder Highway. The Post Office opened on 22 September 1922, the same day as that of Iraak, and closed in 1960. Irrigation from the Murray and rich local soil has allowed for diverse crops. The area has become increasingly well known for its gourmet wines and fresh fruit industries. Also many niche agricultural goods are produced in this area.
