Military Appreciation Day
Military Appreciation Day is any event intended to express appreciation for men and women currently (and sometimes formerly) in military service, just like Armed Forces Day. A particular "Military Appreciation Day" is a date selected for convenience, typically but not necessarily approximate to Veterans Day or Memorial Day nor Armed Forces Day. Sports teams The NHL's New York Islanders first instituted a "Military Appreciation Day" in 2007. Their 2008 commemoration coincided with November 11, and was attended by former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin Powell, who dropped the ceremonial first puck of that game. The Islanders intend each year's "Military Appreciation Day" to be the home game closest to Veterans Day. Many nations around the world observe some kind of Armed Forces Day to honor their military forces. This day is not to be confused with Veterans Day or Memorial Day. Wounded Warrior Project
Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is an American charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001. It operates as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. As of August 22, 2021, WWP served 157,975, registered alumni and 40,520 registered family support members. The organization has partnered with several other charities, including the American Red Cross, Resounding Joy, a music therapy group in California, and Operation Homefront. WWP has also previously provided a year-long Track program, which helped veterans transition to college and the workplace. WWP allocates 71 percent of its revenue to programs and services for wounded veterans and their families, and the remaining balance pays to support those programs. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) is the only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest, located in Tacoma, Washington, US, owned by Metro Parks Tacoma. The Virginia Zoological Park is a zoo located adjacent to Lafayette Park in Norfolk, Virginia, United States.
