Mikel Villanueva Álvarez (born 14 April 1993) is a Venezuelan Association football, footballer who plays as a Defender (association football)#Centre-back, central defender for Portuguese club Vitória S.C., Vitória Guimarães and the Venezuela national football team, Venezuela national team. He spent several years at Málaga CF, Málaga, where he made 15 La Liga appearances and was mainly loaned to Segunda División clubs. He also played in the Portuguese Primeira Liga for C.D. Santa Clara, Santa Clara and Vitória S.C., Vitória Guimarães. A full international for Venezuela national football team, Venezuela since 2016, Villanueva represented the nation at three Copa América tournaments. The Venezuela national football team ( es, Selección de fútbol de Venezuela) represents Venezuela in men's international football and is controlled by the Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF), the governing body for football in Venezuela. They are nicknamed ''La Vinotinto'' ("Red wine") because of the traditional burgundy color of their shirts.
