Mike Smithson (Australian Journalist)
Mike Smithson (born 26 November) is a political reporter and presenter for ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia and can be heard on Adelaide radio station FIVEaa discussing political events with Leon Byner. Career Smithson started his career in print media with Messenger Newspapers in the mid 1970s. He later moved to television joining the ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, later becoming the senior police reporter with ''Seven News'' in Melbourne. Mike returned to Adelaide and became Network Ten's first weekend newsreader before becoming a bureau chief with the Hinch and Real Life programs. He has previously been brief host of '' Today Tonight'' Adelaide and European Correspondent. Some of his biggest reporting stories have included the infamous Skase Chase, the 2000 Summer Olympics and the War on Terror in Afghanistan. FIVEaa (pronounced ''Five Double A'') is Adelaide's only commercial talkback radio station. The station has a range of programs including news, sports, current affairs, social issues, football calls, gardening, lifestyle, cars, travel and health. It is owned by Nova Entertainment. History 5AA commenced service in Kent Town on 14 March 1976 on the frequency 1390 AM. It was moved to 1386 AM with the introduction of 9 kHz spacing on the AM dial in 1978. The station now broadcasts on 1395 AM. 5AA commenced its life with a "Beautiful Music" format and quickly became Adelaide's number-1-rated radio station. Christopher Charles Skase (18 September 19485 August 2001) was an Australian businessman who later became one of his country's most wanted fugitives, after his business empire crashed spectacularly and he fled to Majorca, Spain.
