Mike Scalzi
Michael Scalzi (born December 8, 1969) is an American musician and a philosophy professor at Diablo Valley College. He is the frontman for the heavy metal band Slough Feg. Career Scalzi's first band was Heart of Darkness, a crossover/ hardcore band. He originally auditioned to be the band's guitarist but that role was already taken, so instead he took the spot as the band's vocalist. The Lord Weird Slough Feg In the late 1980s, Scalzi formed The Lord Weird Slough Feg in Pennsylvania, but relocated to San Francisco in 1990 with the hopes of resurrecting the heavy metal scene in the United States. The band produced three demo tapes in the early 1990s before releasing their self-titled debut album in 1996. Since then, the line-up of the band has frequently changed and the name was officially shortened to "Slough Feg" with the release of '' Atavism'' in 2005. Slough Feg (also known as The Lord Weird Slough Feg) is an American heavy metal band from Pennsylvania, formed in 1990 and currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Taking their name from the Celtic folklore-influenced comic book Sláine, the band released their self-titled debut album in 1996. Slough Feg combines influences from traditional heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Brocas Helm, and Thin Lizzy, as well as English folk metal band Skyclad. Slough Feg's 2003 album '' Traveller'' was a concept album based on the role-playing game of the same name. With the release of ''Atavism'' in 2005, the band officially shortened its name to Slough Feg. Guitarist Mike Scalzi maintains that the band always referred to itself this way internally, and the addition of "The Lord Weird" made it too difficult to find Slough Feg albums in stores (which alphabetized the CDs in inconsistent ways). ''The Animal Spirits'' is the eighth studio album released by American heavy metal band Slough Feg. It is the first album by Slough Feg to be released by label Profound Lore Records. A vinyl pressing of the album was released on February 21, 2011, by Cruz del Sur Music. The album was remastered for vinyl release by Justin Weis to play at high resolution (24 bit/96 kHz .wav). Promotion Leading up to the album's release, Mike Scalzi debuted a series of articles on popular metal webzine ''Invisible Oranges.'' These pieces, entitled "Bullpen Bulletins" featured Scalzi philosophizing about the current state of the metal scene, particularly about the elements that he felt are causing stagnation of musical creativity.
