Mike Salisbury
John Michael Salisbury, (born March 1942) is an English documentary filmmaker specialising in natural history programmes for television. In a career spanning four decades, he spent over 30 years working for the BBC Natural History Unit where he produced a string of award-winning series, many in collaboration with David Attenborough. He retired from the Unit in 2006 but continues to work as a freelance producer. In 2007, he was made an OBE in the New Year Honours List for his services to broadcasting. ''The Private Life of Plants'' is a BBC nature documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, first shown in the United Kingdom from 11 January 1995. A study of the growth, movement, reproduction and survival of plants, it was the second of Attenborough's specialised surveys following his major trilogy that began with ''Life on Earth (TV series), Life on Earth''. Each of the six 50-minute episodes discusses aspects of a plant's life-cycle, using examples from around the world. The series was produced in conjunction with Turner Broadcasting. Green Screen Film Festival
The Green Screen international wildlife film festival is held annually in and around Eckernförde, Germany. The festival shows full-length and short nature documentaries about animals in their natural habitat. Around 30,000 visitors make it the largest nature film festival in Europe. The awarded trophy is made of sand. Since 2007 films are shown in cinemas of Eckernförde and on mobile screens in the city and in surrounding locations. In 2008 Inge Sielmann, the widow of Heinz Sielmann, donated a special prize for filmmakers that is endowed with 5,000 Euros. A nature documentary or wildlife documentary is a genre of documentary film or series about animals, plants, or other non-human living creatures, usually concentrating on video taken in their natural habitat but also often including footage of trained and captive animals. ''The World About Us'' was a BBC Two television documentary series on natural history which ran from 3 December 1967 to 20 July 1986.''Encyclopedia of Television'' (2d ed.), ed. Horace Newcomb, p. 324, 620, 1363. The show was created by David Attenborough. The French marine scientist and photographer Jacques Cousteau made a documentary for the series, starting in 1968 with "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau". The series also featured Jane Goodall, again in 1968 and was narrated by Desmond Morris. While Goodall was noted for her work with chimpanzees the series also featured her work with wild African dogs in a 1973 episode. Morris' work "Manwatching" was the subject of an episode in 1977. Animal Magic (TV Series)
''Animal Magic'' is a BBC children's television series which ran from 1962 to 1983 from BBC Bristol. It began fortnightly and was transmitted weekly from 1964. The presenter was Johnny Morris. The show combined jovial voiceovers applied to various animals from Bristol Zoo with some basic educational features. Morris' co-presenters over the years were Gerald Durrell, Tony Soper, Keith Shackleton, Roger Tabor, Sheila Young, David Taylor and Terry Nutkins. When Nutkins joined the show in the early 1980s, the producers tried to update it, using new video effects technology. This allowed them to do such things as "shrink" the presenters to allow them to see life from an ant's viewpoint, or to swim in a riverbed for example.
