Mike Potter (racing Driver)
Mike Potter (July 4, 1949 – October 31, 2022) was a NASCAR driver. He was born on July 4, 1949, and lived in Johnson City, Tennessee. Over the course of his Winston Cup Series career, Potter raced 60 races. Every season he raced was part-time. The most races he ran in a season was 11 in both 1983 and 1992. 1983 was his official year as a rookie, because he ran more than 8 races. His best career finish was a 15th at Nashville Speedway in 1981. In the early 2000s he ran a few races in the Busch Series, primarily for Means Racing during 2003. Potter attempted five races in 2004 for Johnny Davis Motorsports but only made two of them. Potter returned to the NASCAR Busch Series in 2007. He attempted two races in the #00 Chevrolet. Johnson City is a city in Washington, Carter, and Sullivan counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee, mostly in Washington County. Nashville Speedway
Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is a motorsport racetrack located at the Nashville Fairgrounds near downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The track is the second-oldest continually operating track in the United States. The track held NASCAR Grand National/Winston Cup (now NASCAR Cup Series) races from 1958 to 1984. Track configuration The speedway is currently an 18 degree banked paved oval. The track is long. Inside the larger oval is a paved oval. The track was converted to a paved oval in 1957, when it began to be a NASCAR series track. The speedway was lengthened between the 1969 and 1970 seasons. The Subway 400 was the second race of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series season until 2004, held a week after the Daytona 500. This 400-mile (644 km) annual race was sponsored by Subway and was held at North Carolina Speedway (''The Rock'') since 1966. From 1966 to 1995, the race distance was 500 miles (805-km) which was shortened to 400 miles starting from the 1996 season. Until the 2004 Nextel Cup season, two annual races were held at Rockingham. 1979 Daytona 500
The 1979 Daytona 500, the 21st annual event, was the second race of the 1979 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season. It was held on February 18, 1979. Sports pundits consider the 1979 Daytona 500 to be the most important race in stock car history. The race was televised live from beginning to end, a rarity in the era, and the first for a 500-mile race in the United States. 1979 Winston Western 500
The 1979 Winston Western 500 was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing event that took place on January 14, 1979, at Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California. Buying a souvenir program at this race was relatively inexpensive for the era at $2 USD per copy ($ when adjusted for inflation). By the following season, NASCAR had completely stopped tracking the year model of all the vehicles and most teams did not take stock cars to the track under their own power anymore. Only manual transmission vehicles were allowed to participate in this race; a policy that NASCAR has retained to the present day. Summary This race was Williamson's Cup Series debut. The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series began in 1949 as the Strictly Stock Division, and from 1950 to 1970 it was known as the Grand National Division. In 1971, when the series began leasing its naming rights to the R. J.
