Mike Murphy (New Brunswick Politician)
Michael Barry Murphy (born January 25, 1958) is a New Brunswick lawyer and politician. Biography Murphy graduated from Moncton High School in 1976, from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1980 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1983. He received his Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2002. A personal injury lawyer, Murphy was president of the New Brunswick Liberal Association from 1988-1993. In 2001, Murphy considered running for the leadership of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, but dropped out after forming an early campaign team. He supported Shawn Graham, the eventual winner. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 2003 election, the only Liberal to win a seat in Moncton. The Department of Justice is a part of the Government of New Brunswick. It is charged with the protection of the public interest and, as such, oversees the insurance industry, financial institutions, pensions and rental housing. The department was established on February 14, 2006 when Premier Bernard Lord restructured government under the name Department of Justice and Consumer Affairs. It was created out of necessity as Lord wanted to appoint Brad Green, the only lawyer in his caucus, as Minister of Health. In order to facilitate this the Office of the Attorney General, which Green continued to occupy as Health Minister, was severed from the Department of Justice which was in turn renamed the Department of Justice and Consumer Affairs. Kelly Lamrock (born February 5, 1970) is a lawyer and political consultant in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. He was previously a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak, and Minister of Social Development in the New Brunswick cabinet before opening Lamrock's Law in Fredericton. Brian Gallant
Brian Alexander Gallant (born April 27, 1982) is a Canadian politician who served as the 33rd premier of New Brunswick from October 7, 2014, until November 9, 2018. Of Acadian and Dutch descent, Gallant practised as a lawyer before winning the Liberal leadership in October 2012, securing the riding of Kent in a by-election on April 15, 2013, shortly followed by his swearing in as Leader of the Opposition. After the 2014 election, in which the Progressive Conservative government of David Alward was defeated, Gallant was sworn in as Premier at the age of 32. The 2006 New Brunswick general election was held on September 18, 2006, to elect 55 members to the 56th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The campaign came earlier than expected: the incumbent Premier of New Brunswick, Bernard Lord, had pledged a vote would be held on October 15, 2007 but when the ruling Progressive Conservatives faced a loss of its majority in the legislature, Lord said he did not want to face a minority government and, moreover, feared that a by-election could tip the balance of power to the opposition Liberals.
