Mike Ford (rugby)
Mike A. Ford (born 18 November 1965) is an English rugby union coach, and former professional rugby league footballer. He was named as the director of rugby for Dallas Griffins in Major League Rugby, which is planned to begin in 2020. In March 2019 he joined Leicester Tigers as a temporary assistant coach for the remainder of the 2018–2019 Premiership Rugby season. Background Ford was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England. He was a pupil at Saddleworth School in Uppermill, Greater Manchester, from 1976 to 1981, where he was taught, and coached by Phil Larder. Larder later recommended Ford to Ireland when Larder was defence coach of England. Three of his sons play rugby union – George plays for Leicester Tigers, and England, and Joe for Yorkshire Carnegie. Oldham
Oldham is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, amid the Pennines and between the rivers Irk and Medlock, southeast of Rochdale and northeast of Manchester. Wigan Warriors is an English professional rugby league club based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. Formed in 1872, the club was a founding member of the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895, and competed in the inaugural season of the Northern Union's league championship. Yorkshire Carnegie
Leeds Tykes (formerly Leeds RUFC, Leeds Carnegie and Yorkshire Carnegie) is an English rugby union club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, playing in the National League 1. The club was founded as Headingley FC, but renamed in 1991 when it joined with Roundhay RUFC to form Leeds RUFC. In 1998, the club merged with Leeds Rhinos to form Leeds Rugby Limited, also known as Leeds Tykes. In 2007, Leeds Metropolitan University bought a 51% stake in the club and changed the name to fit with the university's sport department, Carnegie College. Joe Ford (rugby Union)
Joe Ford (born 4 June 1990) is a rugby union coach. He has previously also been a player for Yorkshire Carnegie, in three other spells, as well as Northampton Saints, Sale Sharks and Leicester Tigers in Premiership Rugby. He has recently been appointed a coach at Doncaster Knights. Career Ford was a member of the Bradford Bulls Academy and played amateur rugby league for the St Albans Centurions. Ford made his professional rugby debut for Leeds Carnegie on 8 November 2009 in the Anglo-Welsh Cup against Leicester Tigers, Ford scored 13 points in 28-17 win. George Ford (rugby Union)
George Thomas Ford (born 16 March 1993) is an English professional rugby union player who plays at fly-half for Sale Sharks and England. Ford made his debut for Leicester in 2009 and between 2013–2017 played for Bath, before re-joining Leicester, until 2021 when he signed for Sale Sharks for the 2022/23 Premiership season. Ford made his England debut in 2014, was selected for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and started the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final. Phil Larder
Philip John Larder MBE (born 20 March 1945), is an English rugby league and rugby union coach, and former player in both codes. He coached England and Great Britain national teams in rugby league, and in rugby union he was defence coach of England, and the British & Irish Lions. He coached World Cup finals with England against Australia in both codes - losing the 1995 rugby league final, before winning the 2003 final in rugby union. Previously a physical education teacher and national coaching director of the Rugby Football League, Larder was one of the first defence coaches in professional rugby union, and is considered a pioneer in applying rugby league expertise to the defensive side of rugby union. Uppermill is a village in the civil parish of Saddleworth in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. Saddleworth School is a community secondary school in Diggle, England, for students in years 7–11. History First built in 1911 as a junior and infants school, Saddleworth School was expanded to a secondary school sometime between 1960 and 1970. Major League Rugby (MLR or USMLR) is a professional rugby union competition and the top-level championship for clubs in North America. In the 2022 season it was contested by thirteen teams: twelve from the United States and one from Canada.
