Opeth
Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal/ rock band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by lead vocalist David Isberg. The group has been through several personnel changes, including the replacement of every original member; notably Isberg in 1992. Mikael Åkerfeldt has been Opeth's frontman and primary songwriter since Isberg's departure. Opeth has consistently incorporated progressive, folk, blues, classical, and jazz influences into its usually lengthy compositions, as well as strong influences from death metal, especially in their early works. Many songs include acoustic guitar passages and strong dynamic shifts, as well as death growls. Opeth is also well known for their incorporation of Mellotrons in their work. Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist. Sounds Of Decay
''Sounds of Decay'' is a three-song EP released by Katatonia in 1997. The front cover is a screenshot of a decrepit god, taken from the movie '' Begotten''. There is an unreleased version of this EP on which Fred Norrman recorded. The band had to record the EP twice, as during the first recording, the result was terrible due to the band being very hungover. And for unknown reasons, they had not called Fred back to do the recording again. According to Mikael Åkerfeldt, he prefers the unreleased version, as it is "a lot more brutal." This release is the last Katatonia material to feature any death metal-elements, it’s also Åkerfeldt’s final collaboration with the group. A fourth song named "Untrue" was also recorded in the studio session, but it did not end up on the original release. Brave Murder Day
''Brave Murder Day'' is Katatonia's second full-length album, released on 1 August 1996 by Avantgarde Music. The album created a new guitar position with Fredrik Norrman's input and features growled vocals by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. The original version of the record was not mastered, but the 2006 Peaceville Records re-release finally released a mastered version of the album and included the ''Sounds of Decay'' EP as bonus tracks. The remastered edition also includes new liner notes by Anders Nyström. The previous Century Black reissue of the album included the four tracks from the band's '' For Funerals to Come...'' EP. MetalSucks is a heavy metal music-themed news website. The site features reviews, interviews, information on latest metal releases and blog-like posts from the writers, most notably Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. History The site was founded in December 2006 by authors Ben Umanov and Matthew Goldenberg who use the pen names Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. A death growl, or simply growl, is an extended vocal technique usually employed in extreme styles of music, particularly in death metal and other extreme subgenres of heavy metal music. A baritone is a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range lies between the bass and the tenor voice-types. The term originates from the Greek (), meaning "heavy sounding".
