Miguel Abreu Gallery
Miguel Abreu Gallery is a contemporary art gallery with two locations in New York City. History Miguel Abreu Gallery opened its first space at 36 Orchard Street in 2006 in the Lower East Side of New York City. A second 8,000 square foot space was opened two blocks away at 88 Eldridge Street in 2014 to stage large scale projects and exhibitions. The gallery stages conceptually-charged one person and group shows as well as performances, film screenings, and lectures. Sequence Press, the gallery's publishing division, was launched in 2011. In conjunction with the British publisher Urbanomic, the press has released books by philosophers and artists including François Laruelle, R.H. Quaytman, Nick Land, Quentin Meillassoux, and Gilles Châtelet, among others. Eileen Quinlan (born 1972 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a self-described still-life photographer who shoots with Medium format (film), medium format and Large format (photography), large format cameras. An art critic for ''Art in America'' likened her style to that of Moholy-Nagy and James Welling. Early life and education Quinlan received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996 from the School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her Master of Fine Arts in 2005 from Columbia University. Eileen did street photography, portrait photography, and landscape photography before getting into the photographic style she is in now. James Metcalf (artist)
James "Jimmy" Metcalf (March 11, 1925 – January 27, 2012) was an American sculptor, artist and educator. Metcalf established and led a community for copper artisans in Santa Clara del Cobre, Michoacán, Mexico, from the 1970s until his death in 2012. Metcalf was born in New York City. His parents were both stained glass artists, most notably contributing to the windows for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Metcalf took up art and sculpture as a teenager. He enlisted in the 88th Infantry Division of the United States Army, nicknamed the Blue Devils, when he was 18 years old. Metcalf fought in northern Italy during World War II, and lost three of his fingers during combat at Furlo Pass. Metcalf attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and then enrolled at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. Hans Bellmer
Hans Bellmer (13 March 1902 – 24 February 1975) was a German artist, best known for the life-sized pubescent female dolls he produced in the mid-1930s. Historians of art and photography also consider him a Surrealist photographer. Biography Bellmer was born in the city of Kattowitz, then part of the German Empire (now Katowice, Poland). Up until 1926, he worked as a draftsman for his own advertising company. Bellmer is most famous for the creation of a series of dolls as well as photographs of them. He was influenced in his choice of art form in part by reading the published letters of Oskar Kokoschka (''Der Fetisch'', 1925). Jean-Marie Straub (; 8 January 1933 — 20 November 2022) and Danièle Huillet (; 1 May 1936 – 9 October 2006) were a duo of French filmmakers who made two dozen films between 1963 and 2006. Pamela Rosenkranz
Pamela Rosenkranz (born 1979 in Altdorf, Uri, Switzerland) is a Swiss multimedia artist who uses light and liquid to demonstrate her concepts along with performance, sculpture, painting, and installation art. Raha Raissnia
Raha Raissnia (born 1968, Tehran, Iran) is a contemporary artist based in New York City, known for her painting, drawing, filmmaking and performance art. Raissnia manipulates cinema's structural elements in loop installations and live performances. She often alters and tunes the mechanical parts of her film projectors, relying on her hand and playing them similarly to the way musicians play instruments.
