Midtown-Belvedere
Mid-Town Belvedere is a neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. The community lies north of the neighborhood of Mount Vernon, Baltimore, Mount Vernon, and is often described as part of it despite being officially separate. The Mount Vernon-Belvedere Association and the Midtown Community Benefits District both include Mid-Town Belvedere within their areas of purview. History Mid-Town Belvedere is named for its location within the city and for the Belvedere Hotel, which was designed in 1902-1903 by the Boston architectural firm Thomas and Parker. During the first half of the twentieth century, the hotel was a primary lodging for affluent and well known visitors to Baltimore, including American presidents and celebrities. Mount Vernon, Baltimore
Mount Vernon is a neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, located immediately north of the city's downtown district. Designated a city Cultural District, it is one of the oldest neighborhoods originally home to the city's wealthiest and most fashionable families. The name derives from Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, given the original Washington Monument, a massive pillar commenced in 1815 to commemorate the first president of the United States, is the defining feature of the neighborhood. Baltimore Penn Station
Baltimore Penn Station, formally named Baltimore Pennsylvania Station in full, is the main inter-city passenger rail hub in Baltimore, Maryland. Designed by New York architect Kenneth MacKenzie Murchison (1872–1938), it was constructed in 1911 in the Beaux-Arts style of architecture for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It is located at 1515 N. The University of Baltimore (UBalt, UB) is a public university in Baltimore, Maryland. It is part of the University System of Maryland. UBalt's schools and colleges provide education in business, law, public affairs, and the applied arts and sciences. The university is the location of one of Maryland's two law schools. Colonel John Eager Howard
John Eager Howard (June 4, 1752October 12, 1827) was an American soldier and politician from Maryland. He was elected as governor of the state in 1788, and served three one-year terms. He also was elected to the Continental Congress, the Congress of the United States and the U.S. Senate. In the 1816 presidential election, Howard received 22 electoral votes for vice president on the Federalist Party ticket with Rufus King. The ticket lost in a landslide. Howard County, Maryland, is named for him, along with Eager Street and Howard Street in Baltimore. For seven days in November 1800, Howard was the President pro tempore of the United States Senate.
