Midleton GAA
Midleton Hurling and Football Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the town of Midleton in County Cork, Ireland. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. History The concept of a Gaelic Athletic Association was first mooted in 1883 when a sub-committee of the Irish Republican Brotherhood was formed with the ideal of creating a National Athletic body. Midleton man, P.N Fitzgerald was one of the committee members who eventually set up the Gaelic Athletic Association and thus Midleton's love affair and commitment to the G.A.A. was established. The club was formally affiliated to the association, when at the third meeting of the fledgling organisation, held in Thurles on 17 January 1885; Jeremiah J Coffey formally registered the club as Midleton Football club. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork GAA, Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the County Cork, county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Pat Hartnett (hurler)
Pat Hartnett (born 1 December 1962) is an Irish hurling selector, coach and former player. His league and championship career with the Cork senior team spanned eleven seasons from 1984 to 1994. Born in Midleton, County Cork, Hartnett first played competitive hurling at St. Colman's College in Fermoy. Here he was a member of the senior team that played in the Harty Cup. Hartnett later lined out with University College Cork, winning a Fitzgibbon Cup medal in 1985. Hartnett first appeared for the Midleton club at juvenile and underage levels, winning county under-21 championship medals. He later joined the club's senior team and won an All-Ireland medal in 1988. Hartnett also won two Munster medals and four county senior championship medals. In spite of never having played minor hurling for Cork, Hartnett made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of nineteen when he was selected for the Cork under-21 team. Paddy FitzGerald
Patrick FitzGerald (born 1939) is an Irish former hurler and manager. At club level he played with Midleton and Imokilly and was also a member of the Cork senior hurling team. His son, Ger FitzGerald, also played with Midleton and Cork. Club career Born and raised in Midleton, County Cork, FitzGerald first played hurling as a schoolboy with Midleton CBS Secondary School. He progressed through the juvenile and underage ranks with the Midleton club before eventually joining the club's intermediate team. FitzGerald was part of the Midleton team that won the 1962 Cork IHC title after a defeat of Cobh. His performances for Midleton also earned a call-up to divisional side Imokilly and he was a member of the team that was beaten by St Finbarr's in the 1968 final. The East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Michael O'Connor Motor Factors East Cork Junior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Imokilly Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1926 for junior hurling teams in East Cork. The series of games begin in June, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round. Cork Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship (currently known for sponsorship reasons as the ''Evening Echo'' Cork County Premier Under-21 A Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1973 for the top tier under-21 hurling teams in the county of Cork in Ireland. The series of games are played from the summer to the winter months with the county final currently being played at Páirc Uí Rinn. The prize for the winning team is the Dick Barrett Cup. The championship uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. 22 clubs currently participate in the Premier Under-21 Championship. The 2021 Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship was the second staging of the Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and the 133rd staging overall of a championship for the top-ranking hurling teams in Cork. The draw for the group stage placings took place on 29 April 2021. The championship began on 14 July 2021 and ended on 21 November 2021. Blackrock entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Midleton at the semi-final stage. Carrigtwohill were relegated from the championship after being beaten in a playoff by Charleville. The 2013 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 125th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment in 1887. The championship began on 26 March 2013 and ended on 3 November 2013. Sarsfield's were the defending champions and made it all the way to the final, however, they were defeated by Midleton on a 2–15 to 2–13 score line. The 1991 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 103rd staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening fixtures took place on 16 December 1990. The championship began on 28 April 1991 and ended on 22 September 1991. Na Piarsaigh entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Blackrock in the second round.
