Midland, Missouri
Midland is an unincorporated community in Crawford County, Missouri, Crawford County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community was located along Missouri Route 8 near the Missouri Route TT intersection approximately two miles east of Steelville, Missouri, Steelville. The Midland School was about one-half mile to the northwest on a bluff above Whittenburg Creek. History A post office called Midland was established in 1875, and remained in operation until 1896. The community took its name from the Midland Blast Furnace Company. Route 8 is a state highway in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. It travels from Interstate 44 (I-44) in St. James to U.S. Route 67 (US 67) and US 67 Business in Desloge. It acts as a bypass, from I-44 in St. James, to US 67 in Desloge. Travelers on I-44 can use it to avoid the traffic problems in St. Louis, to US 67 in Desloge, & vice versa. Those who want to go to Ste. Genevieve can take US 67 Bus. through Park Hills to US 67, to Farmington, then take Route 32 to Ste. Genevieve. There have supposedly been plans to extend Route 8 to Ste. Genevieve. So far, those plans have not been put into effect. Between Steelville and Potosi, Route 8 was initially Route 62 from 1922 to 1926. Whittenburg Creek
Whittenburg Creek is a stream in Crawford County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The stream headwaters are at and its confluence with the Meramec River is at . The stream source area lies between Steelville and Cherryville. The stream flows generally north passing under Route 19 south of Steelville and under Route 8 just east of Steelville.
