Midde Ramulu (born 1941 - 25 November 2010) was an Indian folklore artist. He is a popular exponent of Oggu Katha. Early life Midde Ramulu was born in Hanmajipeta village of Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla district, Telangana Telangana (; , ) is a state in India situated on the south-central stretch of the Indian peninsula on the high Deccan Plateau. It is the eleventh-largest state and the twelfth-most populated state in India with a geographical area of and 3 .... He did not go to school. Career Midde Ramulu was popular and toured many countries. He is popular for his Renuka Yellamma katha, Mallanna katha, Gangagauri, Balanagamma or any other mythological story, he depicted all characters of the stories before the eyes of the spellbound audience with his style. He was also a member of the AP State Cultural Council. Death He died after suffering from cancer.. Oggu Katha
Oggu Katha or Oggukatha is a traditional folklore singing, praising and narrating the stories of Hindu gods Mallana, Beerappa and Yellamma. It originated among the Kuruma (Kuruba)and Yadava communities, who devoted themselves to the singing of ballads in praise of Lord Shiva (also called Mallikarjuna). These tradition-loving and ritual-performing community moves from place to place, narrating the stories of their caste gods. Oggus are the traditional priests of the Yadavas and perform the marriage of Mallanna with Bhramaramba. The story narrated about Lord Mallanna or Mallikarjuna Swamy using the instrument "Jaggu"(damarukam) is known as Oggu Katha. Used at the beginning of each story and also at the marriage festival of Lord Mallanna. Founder of Oggu kathalu was Sri. Vemulawada, Rajanna Sircilla District
Vemulawada is an ancient historical and a famous pilgrimage census town in Rajanna Sircilla district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the headquarters of Vemulawada Mandal and Revenue Division. The place is notable for Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple, constructed between 760 and 973 CE, and a site of pilgrimage for Hindu worshipers. It also has ancient temples of Bheemeswara, Nagareswara and Pochamma nearby the main temple of Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy. It was the capital of Vemulawada Chalukyas, that ruled present day Telangana, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra between 7 and 10 century CE. The town attracts large number of pilgrims from South India as well as Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Huge number of devotees throng the place during Maha Shivaratri and Sri Rama Navami.
