MidSouthCon
MidSouthCon is an annual multi-day fan convention in the Mid-Southern United States. Background Run by Mid-South Science and Fictions Conventions Inc., the annual multi-day fan convention focuses on anime, comic books, fantasy media, films, medieval weaponry, role-playing games, and science fiction. The con's wide gamut of celebrated subjects has been recognized as one of its draws. Past events 2000s In 2004, MidSouthCon 22 and DeepSouthCon 42 were jointly held in Memphis, Tennessee that March 26–28; Dr. Amy H. Ethan R. Siegel is an American theoretical astrophysicist and science writer, who studies the Big Bang theory. In the past he has been a professor at Lewis & Clark College and a blogger at ''Starts With a Bang'', on ScienceBlogs and also on Forbes.com since 2016. Hilton Memphis
The Hilton Memphis is the tallest hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. Located off Interstate 240 in East Memphis. the 27-story hotel was designed by Hawaiian-born Memphis architect Francis Mah and was built by Boyle Investment. Originally opened on September 15, 1975 as the Hyatt Regency Memphis, the hotel became the Omni Memphis Hotel in December 1989. Just over two years later, it was sold to Adam's Mark Hotels and became the Adam's Mark Memphis in May, 1992. It was sold again to Wilton D. Fan convention (also known as con or fan meeting), a term that predates 1942, is an event in which fans of a particular topic gather to participate and hold programs and other events, and to meet experts, famous personalities, and each other. Some also incorporate commercial activity. Overview Fan conventions are traditionally organized by fans on a not-for-profit basis, though some events catering ''to'' fans are run by commercial interests for profit. Many conventions have award presentations relating to their genre (such as the Hugo Awards which have been presented at The World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) since 1953). At commercial events, performers often give out autographs to the fans, sometimes in exchange for a flat appearance fee, and sometimes may perform songs that have no relevance to the shows or otherwise entertain the fans. Michael Diamond Resnick (; March 5, 1942 – January 9, 2020) was an American science fiction writer and editor. He won five Hugo awards and a Nebula award, and was the guest of honor at Chicon 7. He was the executive editor of the defunct magazine ''Jim Baen's Universe,'' and the creator and editor of ''Galaxy's Edge'' magazine. Biography Resnick was born in Chicago on March 5, 1942. He was a 1959 graduate of Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois. He sold his first piece of writing in 1957, while still in high school.
