Micromyrtus Blakelyi
''Micromyrtus blakelyi'' is a spreading shrub in the myrtle family. It is found near the Hawkesbury River, north of Sydney. It usually grows in depressions and crevices in Hawkesbury Sandstone. The shrub grows to a height of 0.3 to 0.6 metres, and has a cushion-like appearance. Flowering occurs from August to October (early Spring). It is a rare plant, listed in New South Wales as '' vulnerable''. Muogamarra Nature Reserve
The Muogamarra Nature Reserve () is a protected nature reserve that is located in the Sydney region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The reserve is situated in the northern edge of Sydney and lies between the suburb of to the south, and the Hawkesbury River to the north. Features The vegetation is mainly dry sclerophyll forest and shrubs on rocky areas, as well as mangroves along the river. The reserve is closed to the public for most of the year, and opens for six weekends each year in spring, when there are prolific displays of wildflowers. At other times of the year it is available to groups such as the scouts or to schools for education or special events. During the weekends that the reserve is open to the public, volunteers provide guided walks around some of the trails. Myrtaceae, the myrtle family, is a family of dicotyledonous plants placed within the order Myrtales. Myrtle, pōhutukawa, bay rum tree, clove, guava, acca (feijoa), allspice, and eucalyptus are some notable members of this group. All species are woody, contain essential oils, and have flower parts in multiples of four or five. The leaves are evergreen, alternate to mostly opposite, simple, and usually entire (i.e., without a toothed margin). The Hawkesbury River, or Hawkesbury-Nepean River, is a river located northwest of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Hawkesbury River and its associated main tributary, the Nepean River, almost encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney. Hawkesbury Sandstone
Sydney sandstone is the common name for Sydney Basin Hawkesbury Sandstone, one variety of which is historically known as Yellowblock, and also as "yellow gold" a sedimentary rock named after the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney, where this sandstone is particularly common. It forms the bedrock for much of the region of Sydney, Australia. Well known for its durable quality, it is the reason many Aboriginal rock carvings and drawings in the area still exist. The Myrtales are an order of flowering plants placed as a sister to the eurosids II clade as of the publishing of the ''Eucalyptus grandis'' genome in June 2014.
