Microcosmos (Drudkh Album)
''Microcosmos'' is the seventh album by Ukrainian black metal band Drudkh, released on June 22 (July 14 in US), 2009. It was released as CD digipak (unlimited) and as box set (limited to 500 copies) by Season of Mist under the ''Underground Activists'' imprint. The band continues using lyrics from Ukrainian poets, for example material by Ivan Franko on "Distant Cries of Cranes", Oleh Olzhych on "Decadence", or Bohdan Rubchak on "Ars Poetica". The last track ("Widow's Grief") is taken from the soundtrack of the Ukrainian movie ''Atentat'' (1995), like the intro on the previous album '' Estrangement'' ("Solitary Endless Path"). The film is about the life and assassination of Stepan Bandera, leader of Ukrainian Insurgent Army, a Ukrainian partisan nationalist group during and after World War II. Drudkh
Drudkh is a Ukrainian black metal band. It currently consists of (former member of Hate Forest and Dark Ages), Thurios (former member of Astrofaes), Krechet, and Vlad. All four also belonged to Blood of Kingu until it was disbanded. Their lyrics and artistic themes embrace Slavic mythology and Ukrainian nationalism. Many of the band's lyrics are derived from the works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Ukrainian poets (Oleksandr Oles, Oleh Olzhych, Maik Yohansen, etc.) and especially Taras Shevchenko. Drudkh have been particularly secretive throughout the course of their career, even for a black metal band, giving no interviews and not releasing the lyrics to several of their albums. Stepan Andriyovych Bandera ( uk, Степа́н Андрі́йович Банде́ра, Stepán Andríyovych Bandéra, ; pl, Stepan Andrijowycz Bandera; 1 January 1909 – 15 October 1959) was a Ukrainian far-right leader of the radical, terrorist wing of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists named OUN-B. Oleh Olzhych
Oleh Olzhych (July 8, 1907, Zhytomyr, Russian Empire - 9 June 1944, Sachsenhausen concentration camp, Germany) was a Ukrainian poet and political activist. Born as Oleh Kandyba, he was forced to emigrate from Ukraine in 1923 due to occupation by the Soviet Russia and lived in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He graduated in 1929 from Charles University with a degree in archaeology. In 1929 he joined the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and became head of their cultural and educational branch. After the split in the OUN in 1938, Olzhych remained loyal to the Andriy Melnyk faction and represented OUN-M in Carpatho-Ukraine as Melnyk's deputy. Olzhych's poetry focused on themes of Ukrainian struggle for independence. He moved to Kyiv in 1941 and was instrumental in the formation of the Ukrainian National Council.
