Micreos is a Netherlands-based Bacteriophage, phage- and endolysin technology development company. The company is the developer of Staphefekt, an endolysin that selectively kills ''Staphylococcus aureus'' bacteria. The substance is an ingredient in the firm's skincare brand Gladskin which targets inflammatory skin conditions. Micreos has developed phage- and endolysin-based products against specific bacteria such as ''Listeria'', ''Salmonella'' and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA. Listex is their antimicrobial processing aid used to prevent Listeria in food products including meat, fish and cheese. The United States Department of Agriculture, USDA, Health Canada, and Food Standards Australia New Zealand, FSANZ have approved these uses. Lysins, also known as endolysins or murein hydrolases, are hydrolytic enzymes produced by bacteriophages in order to cleave the host's cell wall during the final stage of the lytic cycle.
