Mickey Patel
Mickey Patel (1941–1994) was an Indian cartoonist and illustrator OF books and magazines, as well as a painter and designer. He was born in 1941 in Lahore, which is now part of Pakistan and studied economics at St. Stephen's College, Delhi. In a tribute to Mickey Patel in Outlook magazine, Shobhita Punjia wrote that Mickey "only made it to evening art classes, but was soon drawing cartoons for ''Shankar's Weekly'' and ''Yojana'', later trying to make a living by working with advertising firms — Lintas, Thompson, ASP and Clarion". According to Punjia, besides the illustrations he was best known for, Patel also worked as a visualiser and animated film-maker. His work was shown in international exhibitions and he won many awards, including the Noma Concours awarded by UNESCO for picture book illustrations, which he was nominated for three times (1978, 1984, 1986). Illustrated Weekly Of India
''The Illustrated Weekly of India'' was an English-language weekly newsmagazine publication in India. It started publication in 1880 (as ''Times of India'' Weekly Edition; later renamed as ''The Illustrated Weekly of India'' in 1923) and ceasing publication in 1993. Also simply known as ''Weekly'' by its readership, ''The Illustrated Weekly of India'' was considered to be an important English-language publication in India for more than a century. The magazine was edited by Sean Mandy, A. S. Raman, Khushwant Singh, M. V. Kamath, and Pritish Nandy. A. S. Raman was the first Indian editor of ''The Illustrated Weekly of India'', succeeding Sean Mandy. Khushwant Singh took over as editor nearly a year after Raman's formal departure. Manoj Das
Manoj Das (27 February 1934 – 27 April 2021) was an Indian author who wrote in Odia and English. In 2000, Manoj Das was awarded the Saraswati Samman. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2001, the fourth-highest Civilian Award in India, Padma Bhusan in 2020, and the third-highest Civilian Award in India for his contribution to the field of ''Literature & Education.'' Kendra Sahitya Akademi has bestowed its highest award (also India's highest literary award) i.e Sahitya Akademi Award Fellowship. Poile Sengupta (nee Ambika Gopalakrishnan) (born 1948) is a notable Indian writer in English. She is especially well-known as a playwright and writer for children. Her formal first name is Ambika but she writes, and is known, as Poile. Uma Anand
Uma Anand (1923 – 13 November 2009) was an Indian journalist, actress, and a broadcaster in the mid-1900s. She was born in 1923 in Lahore, Punjab, British India to a prominent Bengali Christian family. One of her sisters, Indu Mitha, is a Bharatnatyam exponent based in Pakistan. Uma was the wife of the prominent Bollywood film director Chetan Anand (married in 1943) and mother of Ketan Anand and Vivek Anand. She worked as an actress in ''Neecha Nagar'' (1946). She also wrote ''Taxi Driver'' with her husband Chetan and her brother-in-law Vijay Anand, that starred her mother's cousin Kalpana Kartik and her brother-in-law Dev Anand. Kamla Bhasin
Kamla Bhasin (24 April 1946 – 25 September 2021) was an Indian developmental feminist activist, poet, author and social scientist. Bhasin's work, that began in 1970, focused on gender education, human development and the media. She lived in New Delhi, India. She was best known for her work with Sangat - A Feminist Network and for her poem ''Kyunki main ladki hoon, mujhe padhna hai''. In 1995, she recited a refurbished, feminist version of the popular poem ''Azadi'' (Freedom) in a conference. She was also the South Asia coordinator of One Billion Rising. She resigned from her job at the U.N. in 2002, to work with Sangat, of which she was a founder member and adviser. Puffin Books is a longstanding children's imprint of the British publishers Penguin Books. Since the 1960s, it has been among the largest publishers of children's books in the UK and much of the English-speaking world. Ruskin Bond (born 19 May 1934) is an Anglo-Indian author . His first novel, ''The Room on the Roof'', was published in 1956, and it received the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957. The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is a hospitality, retail and education company owned by Government of India, under Ministry of Tourism. Established in 1966, it owns over 17 properties under the Ashok Group of Hotels brand, across India.
