Michigan Farm Radio Network
The Michigan Farm Radio Network (MFRN) is a radio network that provides specialty programming geared toward farmers in Michigan. It is owned by Learfield Communications and is a sisters with the Michigan Radio Network. The network began broadcasting from Howard Heath's farm house basement in 1970. Heath was the first recipient of Michigan Farm Bureau's "Agriculture Communicator of the Year Award" in 1975. He died in 1979. Robert T. "Bob" Driscoll, who started his radio career at WLEW in Bad Axe, worked with Heath and later with his son Patrick T. "Pat" Driscoll. Under Bob's management, MFRN became the second largest regional farm radio network in the country. It was most recently owned by Learfield Communications and had headquarters in Lansing, Michigan. Over the years MRN had been around in various forms and names, and is a sister network to the Michigan Farm Radio Network. History The Michigan Radio Network can trace its roots to the Michigan Regional Network, the first radio network in Michigan. The modern incarnation of the Michigan Radio Network began in 1970 with the formation of the Michigan Farm Radio Network (MFRN) in Milan. The network that came to be known as the Michigan Radio Network was first called the ''Michigan News Network'' (MNN). Bad Axe, Michigan
Bad Axe is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Huron County, Michigan, Huron County in the Thumb region of the Lower Peninsula. Milan ( ) is a city in Monroe and Washtenaw counties in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,079 at the 2020 census. The community was settled as early as 1831. Milan incorporated as a village in 1885 and much later as a city in 1967. The center of the downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Main Street Historic District. History The first settler to the area was John Marvin, who arrived in the spring of 1831 and settled the community under the name Tolanville after Marvin's brother-in-law Henry Tolan. He built his home and also operated a general store for travelers and other early residents. Other earlier settlers included Bethuel Hack and Harmon Allen, and their families became the area's first permanent residents.
