Michigan's 99th House Of Representatives District
Michigan's 99th House of Representatives district (also referred to as Michigan's 99th House district) is a legislative district within the Michigan House of Representatives located in parts of Bay County, Michigan, Bay, Clare County, Michigan, Clare, and Gladwin County, Michigan, Gladwin counties, as well as all of the Arenac County, Michigan, Arenac, Iosco County, Michigan, Iosco, and Ogemaw County, Michigan, Ogemaw counties. The district was created in 1965, when the Michigan House of Representatives district naming scheme changed from a county-based system to a numerical one. The district lines were redrawn to now consist of Iosco, Ogemaw and Arenac counties in their entirety and portions of Bay, Clare and Gladwin counties. Mount Pleasant, Michigan
Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in Central Michigan, the city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is surrounded by Union Township but is politically independent. Part of the city (with a population of 8,741) is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation. The tribe's Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in nearby Chippewa Township is also within the reservation boundaries. The city is home to the main campuses of Central Michigan University, one of the largest universities in the state with 20,000 students at Mount Pleasant, and Mid Michigan Community College. 2012 Michigan House Of Representatives Election
The 2012 Michigan House of Representatives elections were held on November 6, 2012, with partisan primaries to select the parties' nominees in the various districts on August 7, 2012. Due to gerrymandering, the Republican Party retained its majority in the House of Representatives despite losing the popular vote. Rep. Roy Schmidt scandal State Representative Roy Schmidt was defeated for re-election after assisting in engineering an election-rigging scandal by which he switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party and recruited a straw candidate to run as a Democrat in order to ensure a swift re-election. The scandal ultimately cost him his seat in the House. Speaker of the House James "Jase" Bolger was also implicated in the scandal, and his race for the 63rd district was made competitive because of his role in it. An election was held on November 8, 2016 to elect all 110 members to Michigan's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including U.S. President, U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The primary election was held on August 2, 2016. There was no change in the composition of the House as Republicans retained control, winning 63 seats compared to 47 seats for the Democrats. Members elected at the 2016 election served in the 99th Michigan Legislature which convened on January 11, 2017. Republicans retained control of the House, despite losing the popular vote, after a net loss of five seats, winning 58 seats compared to 52 seats for the Democrats. Au Gres, Michigan
Au Gres ( ) is a city in Arenac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 945 at the 2020 census. History French explorers named the location Point Au Gres, which stuck on map as late as 1828. Au Gres means "gritty stone" in the area, from which the river and the location takes its name. It was first settled in 1862 temporarily by workers on the Saginaw-Au Sable State Road when they reach the location. The first permanent settler was John Edward Bradley, who built the Bradley House in 1866. On August 8, 1867, the location, which was still a part of Bay County, was granted a post office with Bradley as the first postmaster. The post office was closed from March 2, 1874 until April 30, 1874. The community was incorporated as a city in 1905. Roger Hauck (born October 8, 1961) is an American politician who has served in the Michigan Senate from the 34th district since 2023. Roger grew up on a beef and dairy farm and graduated from Beal City High School. He then attended Central Michigan University before starting a 24-year career at the Delfield Company. Bill Caul
Bill Caul (born September 2, 1942) is a United States politician, who was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2004 to 2010, representing the 99th District, as a member of the Republican Party. Caul, formerly a teacher in the Mount Pleasant Public Schools, ran for the seat formerly occupied by his wife, Sandra Caul, after she was forced out by term limits. In November 2004, Caul defeated Democrat Sharon Tilmann, a former mayor of Mount Pleasant and city commissioner. Caul was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives State Appropriation Committee.
