Michael Andrew Wells (born 9 April 1960) is an American businessman. He was the chief executive of Prudential plc, a British multinational life insurance and financial services company, from 2015 to 2022. Wells joined Athora, a European savings and retirement group, in July 2022, where he is Group CEO. Early life Wells graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Career After graduating, he spent ten years working for a variety of financial services firms in the US, including Wood Logan, Smith Barney, McGinness & Associates and Dean Witter. Wells joined the Prudential Group in 1995 as president of Jackson National Life Distributors, part of the Group's US arm, Jackson National Life. He spent 20 years in a variety of senior positions at Jackson. Michael Allan Wells (born June 1, 1971) is a former American football defensive lineman. He was drafted out of Iowa in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He has also played for the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and the Indianapolis Colts. Early years Wells attended Arnold (MO) Fox where he was a ''Parade'', ''USA Today'' and ''Prep Report'' first-team All-American in 1988, as well as being named U''SA'' ''Today's'' all-sports Missouri state Athlete-of-the-Year, SuperPrep Midlands Defensive Player of the Year, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch College Prospect of the Year. Michael Wells is the president of the European Society of Pathology. Early life and education Michael Wells graduated in 1976 from the University of Manchester with a BSc and MB, ChB in medicine and surgery. Career After graduation, he moved to Bristol and then later to the University of Leeds where he was a Lecturer in the then Department of Pathology. In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Gynaecological Pathology at the University of Sheffield. Michael Eugene Wells (born June 18, 1951) is a former NFL quarterback who played briefly in 1977. He was originally drafted in 1973 by the Minnesota Vikings but did not appear in a Vikings regular-season game. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 1977 but saw very limited action. Wells was a high-school football All American at Normal Community High School in Normal, Illinois before going on to play college football at the University of Illinois. He was an all-Big Ten Conference selection in 1972 before being drafted in the fourth round by Minnesota. As of the 2016 Super Rugby season, he is also a member of the extended playing squad.
