Michael Wager (Ohio Politician)
Michael Wager (born May 17, 1951) is an attorney for Taft Stettinius & Hollister in Cleveland, Ohio, serving as the Chair of the firm's Business & Finance Group. Wager was the 2016 Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in Ohio's 14th District; he also ran in 2014. Personal life and education Wager earned his B.A. from American University in 1973 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1981, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Law and Politics. He also earned his MA from Columbia University in 1976. Wager has taught courses on urban policy and the U.S. judicial system at Case Western Reserve University in the Department of Political Science. Career During the 1970s, Wager worked as a staff member for Representatives Charles Vanik and Mary Rose Oakar of Ohio, as well as Senator Lawton Chiles. Cuyahoga River
The Cuyahoga River ( , or ) is a river located in Northeast Ohio that bisects the City of Cleveland and feeds into Lake Erie. As Cleveland emerged as a major manufacturing center, the river became heavily affected by industrial pollution, so much so that it caught fire at least 14 times, most famously on June 22, 1969, helping to spur the American environmental movement. Since then, the river has been extensively cleaned up through the efforts of Cleveland's city government and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA). In 2019, the American Rivers conservation association named the Cuyahoga "River of the Year" in honor of "50 years of environmental resurgence". Etymology The name ''Cuyahoga'' is believed to mean "crooked river" from the Mohawk name ''Cayagaga'', although the Mohawk were never in the region alongside European settlers, so this explanation is questionable. David Joyce (politician)
David Patrick Joyce (born March 17, 1957) is an American politician and attorney who has served as the United States representative for Ohio's 14th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Republican Party, Joyce was previously the prosecutor of Geauga County, Ohio. He chairs the Republican Governance Group. Early life and education Joyce was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to an Irish Catholic family. His father was a coal salesman. In high school, he played football, and considered joining the priesthood. In 1975, Joyce enrolled at the University of Dayton, a Catholic university, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1979, and later his Juris Doctor.
